Me either Jasmine, ruined plants, smashed vase, some left on doorstep of wrong house in the rain. I've weeded grass and HBC out of the front garden, found a lily beetle in the back garden but not before it had had a good nibble, sowed runner beans in pots, planted up a purple pelargonium, popped a dahlia into a pot of soil, I want to split it but don't want to wreck it, I've had it a few years and it has got BIG so I'll see whet to do when it gets shoots on it, more sycamore pulled, going to put a net up in the autumn to see if I can catch some before they hit the ground.

Eight lily beetles gone to the garden in the sky now, I noticed a new plant growing in the back garden, Derek's plant finder says it's hanging sedge, I looked it up and to buy it costs £11.99, I got it for free.

Watch the sedge Barbara, it self seeded all over the place here and I ended up having to dig them all out. I've dispatched 15 red devils today, dropped one though. Had to get things out of the growhouses as there was some mould forming on a few things. I've tidied them up but think a few of the calibrachoa plugs may not make it, possibly a couple of the nemesias too. Temperature is up and down like a yo-yo so it is no wonder they aren't doing great. Topped 19c this aft, maximum on Tuesday was 7c. I've moved slightly hardier things in a well ventilated growhouse, (one that the cover has nearly rotted away on!) and managed to move things round in the others to allow more air circulation. Daylilies I've grown on are not on the side terrace table, if it stays mildish I'll get them planted tomorrow. Planted one of the hydrangea paniculatas in the gap left by the garrya, think it was Wims Red but the label had faded. Moved some solar lights that had stopped working and put new ones out. OH chopped up the rest of the garrya prunings and I had a go at pruning wood out of the arbutus unedo, I think it is dead, no sign of green, possibly honey fungus as it started to get blotchy leaves and nothing seemed to help it recover. Removed a 'weed' that spreads by bulbils, forgot what it is called, it comes back every year despite my attempts to clear it.

Rubbish isn't it Barbara, I got a clematis in a tall box with arrows and 'This way up' on it and the delivery driver left it upside down. I weeded the terraced bit of the garden and edged and weeded some more beds.

Thanks Tig, I'll keep an eye on it, one red devil today but I was only out a few minutes hanging the washing out.

I got three red devils as I wandered round after pegging the washing out. The mini plug summer bedding mix arrived this morning so I've planted them in the trays I filled with coir fibre compost yesterday. Quite a nice selection if they all survive, nicotiana, verbena, impatiens, begonia semperflorens and petunias, singles & doubles. I tidied up more containers, removing dead bedding from last year and more moss. Decided the carnation I grew from a bouquet cutting years back was too woody & contorted so I've taken any potentially viable cuttings off and ditched the original plant. Will see if any grow. Cut back chrysanths & lychnis that I'd missed. Got the shears out and gave the euonymus by the path a good haircut, 2 vine weevils dropped into the tray I was collecting the clippings in! They are not going to go forth & prosper. Should plant the daylilies but it has gone cooler and I've other jobs to do indoors.

I managed to hoe and rake a bed on the plot this morning, sowed some more beetroot and parsnip seeds, then the heavens opened so went into the GH and sowed some French beans, and peas in pots.

I finished edging all the beds, what a job. I had to water all the pots, they were getting quite dry. I used the last 2 bags of horse manure on some shrubs at the bottom of the garden. Before my knee gave up I potted up all the plugs that arrived from SR today - cosmos and annual phlox. Alan mowed the lawn. It was so nice we sat outside for tea breaks!

I've been weeding and cutting back some of the French Lavender, we have a couple of them now and they've really grown out. Dead heading Narcissus is almost a daily job now as well and some of the Tulips too. I've cut off the flowers from some of the Hellebore and pulled up manky leaves from Geum, some of which has started to flower. I've planted out Gabriel Oak Rose which I grew from cuttings from about 18 months or so ago, it had a really good root system going.

I have spent ages trying to dig out hairy alliums before I could plant out a few things. I know some bulbils will have stayed below ground but I must have removed over 100 of them. Found a clump of wild garlic I'd missed, one lot has already taken over quite a bit of another border and I will struggle to get those as they are in with other perennials. I found two other tall weeds with tap roots, but have forgotten the name Had lunch then planted out 5 daylilies (destined to see, calico jack, tigger, whoopie and cherry valentine), 3 heleniums from the mariachi series & the limonium dazzle rocks. I just have a sedum, fern and hosta to get planted and eventually the dahlias & summer bedding stuff.

Todays 5 perennial purchases shoe-horned in and the apple blossom had a brush, the wind is stopping many insects visiting it so thought it may help set a few fruit.

Yesterday I cut loads of ivy that was coming from garden behind through my fence , the top needs trimming but need the trimmer Phil borrowed. At last I trimmed all the dead flowers off my hydrangea and cut back a lot of hellebore, and a perennial wallflower that had died at one side in the front garden , it doesn't like the draft that wips around the stone wall, I'm going to dig the whole thing up when I can breath easier I was cream crackers just cutting through the stems!

I was out doing a bit of PJ gardening this morning at 6am as the garden bin had a bit of space in it. The holly at the bottom of the garden is a bit tidier and the bin is now full - got to get my money's worth!

I managed to tie up a clematis that all of a sudden had a spurt of growth and was tangled up in those sticky ball weeds! I used my compost stirrer to twist loads of those weeds out I thought I would have got that back border cleared but got company so came in for coffee.

Deadheading daffs & tulips, pruning deadwood out of the cercis canadensis & variegated weigela, and more old leaves cut off hellebores. Also cleared a bit of moss the blackbirds had scattered over the gravel.

I've dug out weeds from borders and pulled others up. Cut up the contents of the tub for the compost heap a bit and will continue with that again either later or another day. Potted up (for now) some what I think is Sweet William to place in another part of the garden and did some dead heading. Washed some of the containers that the birds drink from and bathe in. I was trying to stay in the shady part of the garden as it is actually too warm to be gardening in full sun at the moment. Came in and had a shower and now I'm chilling.

It blinking cold out here even in the short bursts of sunshine. I tidied up more hydrangeas, cutting out any wood showing no new buds. Pulled more hair alliums up & caught 5 red devils. Got the plugs out of the growhouses and gave a few dry cells some water. A few haven't survived the freezing nights, not surprising really.

I've planted out the salvia and the other one I can't remember the name of, moved the primulas to the new edge of the bed and the dahlias are going in there when it warms up , I've emptied pots from last year and got them ready for new stuff later, cleaned the potting bench, fed the worms and swept up the patio, pulled more ground elder it's coming under the fence from next door so looks like I'll never be rid of it.

Weeded a third of one of the front borders. Cut back more hellebore flowers, trimmed back the green & gold euonymus and pruned both akebias - they are like triffids at the moment. OH cut the privet hedge on the front and I got some more hair alliums out in the back.

Went to the old plot yesterday. I thought I had Mary mint in pot but it seems to have succumbed and as I let it free on the plot and remembered where it should be I got some back from there. I also scrounged a bit of wild Rucola from one of the girls and now have a home for my old Vernone Dahlia. Then I went to where I used to share a plot as they too left and rescued some shuttle cock fern for a difficult spot at home. See if that thug wants to live there.
Strange to be pottering at the plots but at the same time still pleased I left. I miss the people and my bit but the situation is soooooo not nice.

I've taken more of the arbutus unedo down, I can see why it died now. The main trunk has a split in it top to bottom, about half an inch wide in places. I've pruned it so it looks quite sculptural, the birds are perching in it already and I have put some coloured solar lights on it. In time the root will shrink and we should be able to rock it out, it is a bit too big & surrounded by plants to want to try & dig it out. I've removed more moss, hbc & rbwh seedlings and trimmed a couple of the shrubby salvias. Split another old heuchera that was straggly, hope the bits take.
OH had the bit loppers out to take some shrub branches coming over our drive from the neighbours, and when he'd done I let him halve the camellia ruby wedding. It had grown through an obelisk and tilted it over, I couldn't get it upright without hacking it right back, hope it survives.

My FG order arrived this morning (last one for this spring!). I have potted up 5 echinacea papillon bareroots, 5 asclepia tuberosa have gone in one deep pot to grow on as every time I've planted them out previously they've never re-appeared, maybe this time I'll get them going. 2 phlox, cleopatra has gone in the triangle border but I've put the piece of palmyra in a pot to grow on as it was a bit small. Did a bit more weeding and moss clearing while I was out.

I did 2 hours at the village hall garden - it looks so much better. I'm not sure how long it has been there now but I remember saying when they decided to do it that it needed a plan for the future. I suggested some mulch which we spread today, don't think anything has been added since its creation. Anyway, it was fun working in the sun with my gardening friend and it looks so much better.
I then did a bit in my garden - the beds are all edged now and I potted on my Cosmos and Panicum seedlings.
