Watching country file on Sunday I was amazed when the farmers were complaining about the cost of synthetic fertiliser to learn some are just about to start making their own compost, are they mad, they could have saved themselves thousands of pounds over the years by making it with all they have at their disposal.

Not for the first time recently when I see Adam, I wonder if he isn't ill?? He has an odd facial colour, thin...something doesn't seem right somehow...

I loved the garden on GW this week that the lady had kind of colour coded, I would'nt be on for that so much but loved her choice of flowers and shrubs and she does it all herself!! She must be in the garden all day, she did say she likes to do something every day of the year.

I really enjoyed Beechgrove yesterday, well, most of it. The team are great when it comes to tips on collecting & sowing fresh seed & taking cuttings. The only bit that I thought wasn't excellent was the lady in her own garden who was planting the tulips, packed in like sardines and only a couple of inches deep. She may only want hers for cut flowers but if others followed that advice I think they would be disappointed. In my experience if they are packed too tightly the foliage starts to go mouldy and that affects the flower stems growth.

I really don't like it when you see the wrong thing done on gardening programmes on tv. So many people will follow that advice and end up with problems.

Yay Beechgrove is back on. Shame it is only half an hour but they still manage to pack a lot in and there is a lot less waffling than on GW so even when they cover something I already know they are on to another subject within minutes. Enjoyed the first programme on BBC Scotland tonight.

I've never had time for those gardening programmes where a team come in and give a "quick fix" to a totally neglected garden. Throwing a few thousand pounds at it, rushing to achieve an instant "show," because they give themselves, totally unnecessary time restraints, "'cos it makes it more exciting." For the most part, much of the planting will have reached the end of its summer life within a couple of months.
It used to amuse me many years ago when these highly paid professional gardeners on a BBC progamme, built these unique garden constructions. I always wondered if Diarmuid Gavin had his own concrete making company, he used so much of it in the gardens he created. I think they looked awful.

Actually doghouseriley, we were lucky enough to have a programme on Irish TV hosted by Diarmuid Gavin during lockdown. We saw a good bit of his amazing garden and loved it. He has tons of fabulous plants with his home settled in the middle of it all, raised up to overlook parts of the garden with a huge attached and partly covered area to enjoy the garden all year round. It's great to see Beechgrove back on the TV, I've not caught up with any of GW yet 'tho.

Hopefully we'll have recorded it. On one of their posts yesterday or the day before they were asking people for questions for an upcoming postal episode. I got a pm from them saying they'd like to use my question and asking for further details and a photo if possible. I also had to say yes to terms and conditions etc... so I've taken a pic of one of the apple trees. My question was "How do I do winter pruning for an apple tree".

Oh well, after lots of toing and froing Beechgrove are'nt using my question on the programme. Not to worry 'tho at least I don't have to worry about not seeing it.
