I've mentioned elsewhere that I spotted somethings growing under the acers, it could be weed, or it could be something I've planted and forgotten about as they were hidden until this week by the foliage on the trees. Anyone recognise the leaves? They are the ferny looking ones - obviously whatever it is it doesn't mind growing in deep shade! Hope someone has an idea i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif x Tig

It reminds me of some sort of woodlandy anemone but it can't be at this time of the year

Can't sleep so have been having a look around - I am sure I know that but all I can come up with is Ragweed at the moment..leaves are similar but not sure if it is really that as Ragweed grows big..
As Amber says it looks so much like a Corydalis - perhaps bulbosa..

It looks more like 'Herb Robert' to me.

I have something similar the roots "travel" across the soil and it has pretty pink flowers but it is a weed I tend to leave some of it in the garden and pull most of it up

Thanks all for taking the time to reply. I have had Herb Robert growing in the garden before so it could be that. By the look of the growth pattern I think it could have a 'spreading' habit, or it could just have seeded in several places under the acers When I can access the area I might remove some and perhaps pot one up and see if it flowers x Tig

It reminds me of cordyalis too, mine has lovely blue flowers, I hope it's that for you Tig, maybe the bush it's under has kept it warm.

Herb Robert (geranium robertianum) was my first guess

I did find two others growing behind some shrubs lower down the garden, and they were easy to remove Herb Robert is the favourite candidate, although I wouldn't have minded a blue corydalis Thanks everyone x Tig

It is Herb Robert, we had some at the last house. Pretty little pink flowers, does self seed and will grow in any little nook or cranny, but easy enough to remove from the wrong place.
