All my strawberries live in the garden coppice. I just thought I would try early ones indoors. They still look good and hardly need watering so that is fine. My GH is not heated. Vermin has been dealt with for the time being ( the farmer placed rat poison as they were getting invasive). Now only the outside tulips got dug up and eaten by them so I am on to stage two in the war on vermin. Pests are part of allotment gardening .

The only tip you'll need is how to stop them spreading everywhere !!!!! lol

Feed them every couple of weeks, make sure the slugs don't get them and most of all give them the sunniest spot you have. When the time comes they'll produce runners but we can deal with those when the time comes. Good luck wendya,

I use tomato feed for everything in pots wendya but if you don't have any then slow release fertiliser would help them too.

The runners are the long stems coming from the main plants wendya, here's a good video that should help. I have never used the "bridge" that he does, but it's a good idea.

I have my runners all planted up in pots for the new bed but am in two minds now. Shall I plant out despite it being late in October when the bed comes available or do I leave them in the pots. Hm. I think I will plant out as I feel they stand a better chance of surviving but then again.... dilemma.

I would plant them out Dutchy, otherwise frost may get the pots and crack them, that would mean the roots are frosted .

Thanks Barbara, they are in plastic but small, so the pots will freeze through anyhow. When they are in the ground I can put fleece on and that should be enough.

I can say they got through Winter last year and now are healthy plants. I do have to remove some brown leaves though. I keep forgetting this keep them clean regime in Winter. This year I have not only garlic but also tulips growing in the in between spaces. I'll see if that affects them or not. Tulips are hungry bulbs. Ah and garlic and tulips are up now. Things are a tad early and Winter is yet to come for real.

I grow all my strawberries in containers and cut off all leaves as close to the crown as possible , once when they finish fruiting to see them through winter and once in late winter for the spring and summer set. Since doing this I get a much better crop.
