I'm with Tig on the hellebores, I leave my seeds outside and have seen nothing yet as it has been too warm for them. You can always buy a couple as insurance, as it's likely that your temps won't drop far enough in central London. Loads of nice ones about

Im not sure, it could have been someone passing through, as where I live lots of commuters nip through and pass that way, so possible I wouldn't have a clue who they were, but I do know they were taken in the dark as they were there this morning at 6 but gone at 9 so definitely could be a commuter they even took from different places thinking i may not notice. Lets hope they don't return for the rest or I may be on the news, if i catch them doing it.

I don't suppose you can get your hands on some really prickly holly or something with thorns and put it around where someone would grab a plant - a holly thorn, or any for that matter, in your finger or down your nail hurts like hell...mmmh what else can you use - hah - how's about some cheapy mouse traps - rat traps would hurt even more but will be more expensive... I am not surprised that you are so fed up - I would be really angry as well...

Holly or mahonia leaves, or some cut bramble stems. You could even make little prickly towers over the prettiest plants. Some commuters may think the local council maintains the troughs rather than a 'private' person doing it for their community, not that it is right to steal them anyway!!!

wendya, what a shame. You could put out a notice saying the beds are maintained by a private individual. Good ideas there about the holly, brambles etc..... even the clippings from your own berbris might help.

Ladygardener yes i would love to put up a notice but i may cause unwanted attention, maybe they do think the council does the gardening and don't mind stealing off them many plots around here are cared for by them must admit. But i love the sounds on Holly leaves or brambles placed around them in fact i may go out hunting holly later love sound of mouse traps too but would hate any mice to be caught in them as know there is a family of mice behind one of the planters, but i would do if no mice, and hope they get their fingers caught hehehe, so i will go down the holly and bramble route thank you all for your ideas
