Amongst my bamboo i have a couple of very dark green shoots. Is this normal? A weed? Or is it going to flower and die?

No idea actually stevemc, - ours flowered once and I seem to remember the flowers being dark and rather like grass seeds. Do the dark shoots look as though it is totally a different plant or part and parcel of the bamboo...? Just trying to think who else has Bamboo here - Tig, isabella, Jilly, Dutchy - I think!!

I used to have a bamboo years ago, they do look like flower buds stevemc, but doesn't necessarily mean it's going to die, think that is a bit of a myth, mine used to flower every year or so (black stemmed bamboo) & it kept going for years.

The foliage looks distinctively different to the leaves on the bamboo behind stevemc, are they definitely attached to the parent plant? I would be inclined towards a weed having crept in.

Hm yes that is flower buds but is it bamboo? It sure looks different from your one behind. Does it bleed when you pull off a leave? Do you have a close up off the stem? And.. Not all bamboo die after flowering. It depends on the species. All will take time to recover from flowering though. It looks as if your original bamboo is fine.

Couldn't pull it out so I snapped it as low as I could. Didn't bleed either. It was about 8 foot as big as the Bamboo. Thanks for help guys

Hm it isn't bamboo but whatever it is, it looks like it might come back since you snapped it off. Have you opened the buds to see what colour they might become?
