my son's new house has several pear trees, all different varieties, but 1 of them seems to have some dreadful lurgy. it has bright orange blotches on the leaves, and if you look underneath the leaves there are little white' twig like '.things growing out of the blotches. any ideas what it is, and more importantly........what do we do about it?

I hope that someone else answers this but I think that I know what it is and do not know the English name - I am going to say Scab but may be wrong. The one thing that I do know is the if it is what I am thinking then it is a fungus which is wind born from the Prunus Laurocerasus. Look around and see if there are any in the area.
FIL's pear trees get it each year but the pears are still lovely.
