Chuckles - My other top tip to check if the soil has warmed up is to sit on it, if your b*m gets cold quickly then it's too cold to plant a little seed!! This will now be offically known as 'Doing a GH' LLx Another top tip when doing a GH - don't wear a thong

I don't think there is a right or wrong way as long as it works, and if I get parsnips I might end up trying them all I think you are right Roxann, especially with the variations in temperature up and down the country. I'm just going to enjoy the experiments in the next few years. ;D BTW, you say you are in southern England, anywhere near me?

The first sowing of mine are already in, Sown directly into the soil. I use the toilet roll method for leeks. Fx Blimey, I'm going to have to nag FIL to get on with the raised roots bed! I need some extra time to grow a longer one than GH you see. ;D

Rizla papers? For parsnips? Whatever next? Sounds a bit of a fag to me.... All my planning has now gone up in smoke..... I believed all this nonsense about 'nips being hard to germinate. I believed the tales about only using fresh seed. My experiments have shown it is all tosh or I am a great gardener Which we know isn't true! It is all down to correct watering in the first 3 weeks, unless you are on waterlogged clay. I'll be sowing mine at Easter, because I only really want them in winter. Now, can anyone help me germinate mustard & cress

If we were 'real' lottie neighbours, I don't think we'd get that much done , we'd be gossiping and sitting on the soil all the time . OR we'd be evicted by the site manager Now I'm off for abit of allotmenteering - WITH clothes

It would be an absolute hoot if we were all together on a Lottie ;D ;D. The only down side would be that we wouldn't be able to share all our tips and the laughs we have with as many as we do on here. I've just come in with a grin from ear to ear and OH thinks I'm losing it ;D ....................just sown my very first Parsnips and I've still got a warm butt

Just in newspaper tubes, general purpose compost covered with vermiculite. I was getting worried as it was over 3 weeks ago that they were sown. Might sow some more just incase the direct sown seeds don't come too much
