I have mentioned this in the Other Place, but thought I would add it here for those whose tomatoes are not ripening - or just to try anyway. From an American friend. Slice green tomatoes 1/2 inch thick. Dip into beaten egg. Dredge in flour. Fry in bacon fat or other oil. Delicious

not green toms,but:
cut cherry toms in half,sprinkle lightly with chilli powder,drizzle with lime juice.Serve at room temperature...
and have a soft roll on standby for the last of the juices.

Having eaten them simply sliced and fried for the first time yesterday, and enjoyed the taste, I will be trying them rolled in oatmeal if I can get some (non left in our cupboard ) However, plain flour will be today's option.
