Plantaholic - How on earth did your OH produce a meal in 5 mins, I'm sure a steak pie must take longer than that even in a microwave!! My OH can cook one or two things well - these I know are safe to eat ;D, afterall he has spent years watching me in the kitchen so he should have an idea of what to do!!
Anyhow, two nights off in a row for me as Saturday evening is always take away night (usually curry!!).
BTW I actually enjoy cooking ;D

Your tea sounds scrummy - do you put the garlic under the parma ham? My OH is pretty good - will wash-up,dust,hoover and generally tidy up but will not do the ironing, doesn't know how to use the washing machine and really hates shopping!!! Best Wishes Pam

I'm going to make a slit in the chicken breast and put the garlic and butter (I'm not counting calories!!) and maybe abit of basil into the slit before I wrap the parma ham round, then I'll just bake it in the oven. I've also got one of my Squash which I'll roast at the same time - with more garlic!!, might have some with the chicken or use it for a soup. OH is just painting a wall in the dining room....

If it's a stomach bug, I have heard that the IsoTonic sports drinks help to rebalance the salts you loose.

GH, The chicken sounds good - I will try it sometime!! I love making soup- roasted butternut is delicious!! I come home for lunch as I only work across the road and I always have soup for lunch. I rarely buy tinned soup- maybe tomato and much prefer to make my own!! My favourites are Carrot and Coriander Roasted vegetable Mixed vegetable and tomato Lentil and bacon Broccoli and stilton Very often I skip the butter and sweating stage and just bung it all in a saucepan - at least I know what's in it and it always tastes better than a tin of soup!! Best Wishes Pam

Ooooh some of those soups sound delish! I regularly make vegetable soup, chicken and sweetcorn soup, French onion soup, and carrot and orange soup. All are delicious and a meal in themselves! Another fave but I make less often is Gary Rhodes' "Bubble & Squeek" soup.

They sound good too,Plocket What is bubble & squeek soup - has cabbage and pototoes in it ? A few years ago I saw Gary Rhodes make Cabbage and Bacon soup - this is a main meal soup with chopped up gammon steaks, onions or leeks, carrots and shredded savoy cabbage. I make it when the weather is really cold and we have parsley dumplings added.

Tonight we have had our last roast dinner for a while ( unless we can cadge one). Tomorrow the builders will start to rip out the kitchen and we will be without an oven for about a month. Mrs Bill has made some casseroles for the freezer and I have made and frozen a couple of batches of bread rolls (can't do without my bacon cob on a Saturday morning)

Have 'the works' when your new kitchen is finished!! When we had our extension done the kitchen and dining-room were knocked into one and it was hell for a few weeks !! The kitchen sink was moved about 3 times while work was going on!! Luckily OH is a plumber so we weren't waiting for someone to do it for us!! All the hassle will be worth it!! Best Wishes Pam

When we had our extension done the kitchen and dining-room were knocked into one and it was hell for a few weeks !! That's more or less what we are doing. We are taking out the wall between kitchen and dining room. We are also extending the kitchen into an existing cloakroom to create a much larger space
