Have you got a photo of them? Will you get beans? Can they go outside or must they be imprisoned for life?

Lost all my aeoniums this year - the ones in the ground and the ones overwintering in the greenhouse Might not bother for a year or 2 as I've had several for a few years.

Gosh cheery Ive just googled that and a plant cost £75!! were the seeds expensive? sorry Maggy, I haven't been on-line much (work's been rather dire so I've been bushed!) I got the seeds from T&M online...they were the free ones (the most expensive packet's always free when you order on line) bit I think they cost about £3 for 4 seeds...another seed is poking through already i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif

I repotted my Banana yesterday into a 90 litre, rather ugly tub but it is ideal really. I hope that the banana is OK as I was surprised to see how wet it was. All the plants have stood on gravel for the winter and have just had fleece around the tubs.
I think that I will have two years before it outgrows this tub - what do I do then, just take it apart (how) and start from scratch??

I brought the Colocasia up from the cellar today and during the winter months I mistakenly watered it once - never thought any more about it but today when I got it out the bottom has rotted a bit.
I scraped it all off and put it in the sun to dry which is it doing slowly. The other bit is fine and it has got some babies as well.
Will it be alright or should I cut the bottom bit off totally??

It has survived andy and I have found a spot in the garden for it now. The leaves do look rather yellow - is that normal - but it is definitely alive and managed minus15 without any fleece at all.
Now I have the three that Dutchy sent me - no more room in the garden at the moment but 2 x 100 litre tubs free.
The Fatsia and Banana are on full view this year - I have already decided to say that I know this bloke in the UK and that he persuaded me to plant all these "exotic" things!!!!

The mimosa pudica seedlings seem to be growing away quite well. They not only react to touch, but also to wind movement and nightfall! Just thought I'd share .. x Tig

Not sure about the quickly RF - they were sown and germinated back end of December just after they arrived from Germany ;D They seem to be getting their feet down now, though. I am looking forward to flowers (and hopefully some more seed x Tig

That's three months then I suppose - oddly enough my big one is always very very slow to start and then suddenly goes berserk - it has never flowered yet though and i have had it 4 years this summer.
I hope the ones that you have sown, do as they are supposed to do - flower in the first year.
I shall be having another go in late November or December.

I really have been very brave today and re-potted my Budds and also taken Dutchy's doorwedges out of their 3-some pot and given them each a 15 litre pot of their own for this year. I think they are coming along grand to be honest. RF

Oh my (small hint of a tear in me eye.) Those baby erm doorwedges look real fine RF. They should be happier separated and easier to just place somewhere this winter..... I know it is only SPRING ;D It takes a Gardener to plan ahead...... sort of Gosh I can't beleive I stuck them as cut offs in a bit of moist compo last spring. You have done well by them <thumbs up smiley>

Cor that's a bit of alright isn't it - when will it start flowering - isn't it three years before they do??
I have been rather successful as well - I have managed to get a Colocasia Esculenta Black Magic. I was looking all over and Dutchy was helping me by looking in Holland. I finally tracked one down at a garden site that I have been a member of for ages. They also have some gingers but I was very good and clicked on Logout!!

I hope it will flower this year RF - otherwise it will be too large for the house I bought it as a five leaved plant last spring, the lowest two have died back over time, and it has been repotted twice already .. Well done finding the colocasia - and for your restraint in resisting the gingers ;D x Tig

I've given mine a darned good talking to Tig....hopefully it will be shamed into putting on some growth.....
changing the subject...I have sown some melianthus major seed and have them in the heated propagator but so far nuffink....anybody else tried them?

No. But I now have a Dranunculus vulgarum going wroomp and no space in the CF any more as it hits the lid. And no I do not have a GH. For now I put it in the shed but that heats up real fast in the morning I know the tip of the plant can get frost damage so it is not very hardy but does any one know how the leaves react to frost once they are out? In other words... can I leave it outside by now, even when we do get some night frost? See so many questions, Cheery, me, Rosefriend when she has to deal with the neighbours and how to explain exotics are not madness ;D

I can't get that link to work Dutchy Although it isn't your first attempt with melianthus major is it Cheery? gardenworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=seeds&action=display&thread=6855I haven't tried them (yet ) - but anyone remember when I tried sowing pomegranate seeds and they germinated ;D I left out the plants in their pots, apart from one tiny one which I dug in the border (one of the coldest parts of the garden : - anyway just went for an after-tea weed and low and behold ... first signs of new leaves! Loads of little red buds on the stems of them all - I might get them all planted in the garden now, or maybe a pomegranate grove is a bit much for my little garden! (I'm really chuffed - can you tell ;D) x Tig
