I don't have a secret for them standing upright RF - I do plant them deep and make sure the growing tip is 'true', it might be down to how much light they get - I do think they are prone to lean to the light if in part shade.

My 1st attempt at Hollyhocks. Hopefully I'll have even more next year and I've not given up on the idea of having some more this year too.

I always have Hollyhocks in the garden Ladygardener - either ones that have sown themselves or that I have done - some are not very happy this year and have a couple of flowers and are stunted at only metre...dunno why... It is a real pinky pink isn't it!! RF

It is a real pinky pink isn't it!! RF They're lovely flowers Rosefriend and I've always admired them in other folks garden without giving them a go in my own. I've thought them too tall and did'nt think they'd survive the winds we have but fingers crossed I've found a spot for them. Don't know why yours are smaller than normal, are they a smaller variety?

My Avatar - sort of pinky/violet/purple - Chartreuse de Parma - one of the most beautiful roses I know and with a scent that is a combination of Mandarin, Hyacinth, Lilac and Lemon and more - very intensive and heady, one bloom can fill a room with scent!! Down to reality - a dwarf Anemone - nice though.. RF

It's a great pic and sounds like a wonderful rose Rosefriend. I must have a google, Jenny and I were talking the other day about getting a really strong smelling Red or Puple/Red Rose for the garden at some stage.

One of the last of the roses - Sommersonne (Summer Sun in the UK) by Kordes...wonderful rose and it was Olaf that came up with the name actually and then his Mum baptised the rose in Oct 2008 - we were there with Kordes and the press etc...wonderful day...never knew until then that roses get sprinkled with Champagne...!! So many tones and hues of colour in this rose - I love it....so healthy as well - just like Angelface. RF

Thanks very much Rosefriend, I'm very pleased with them. Thanks for the nom as well, it's lovely to have lilies so late in the year when all the others are over. It's great that you have found a way to combat the red devils, they're a real pain for some folk. theinsidegardener had a few this year as well and I know Tig, is plagued with them.

Lovely shades of pink everyone. I was'nt sure where to put these so popped them on here. This 1st one is a little one grown from seed this year. I split my Nerine last year and grew them in pots this year as i could'nt decide where to put them. I'm delighted that some of them are starting to flower. These have been going strong all summer long. I've tried taking cuttings but no luck as yet.

Never heard of it Tig, but isn't it pretty... I had Purpinka but I binned it last year - it never looked anything like yours and only had one or two flowers... Love this Ladygardener, you have some fantastic Dahlias this year.... The Nerine is lovely - I used to have them as well but the winters kept killing them so I gave in...that reminds me farmersboy must have his lovely Nerines out now??!! That Sedum is huge isn't it - I have a white one...the bees are really enjoying it.. RF

Thanks Rosefriend, I've had some unexpected colours with the Dahlia too, they're delightful. The Sedum got moved to the allotment so it would have room to grow and as the plot is on a slope, it's well drained. It loves it there.
