Do you specifically want an evergreen clematis Dutchy? Freckles can cope to Zone 7 which means about -17 I think, but you also have to take into consideration that a container provides less protection to the roots of the plant than the soil would. As it's going to be in the shelter of the house, providing you use a big container (at least 18 to 20 inches diameter), it will be more protected so I think it's worth a try, if it's a sunny spot - it will want lots of sun!
