Hi FA - yes, I realised that - & I don't think the one we found was on your site, unfortunately - but it did seem, looking there, that the crickets were much more squat than the grasshoppers, so that was what made me think it was a grasshopper. I don't really have time at the moment for further research though!

What wonderful photos. I have frogs and a hedgehog and slugs (naturally on that one) but no photos sadly, but OM, you lucky lucky man, to have held a bat in your hand. My achievement, which I was so excited about , has suddenly paled by comparison, but it's the best I've got ;D These moorhens live in the pond near the house, but wander up to visit. The fact that I'm wearing a parka with the hood up says a lot about the weather here today

Badgers eh? Wouldnt they have a sett somewhere tho? I dont think I can see anything near my house that resembles one - I would really like to know what it is - I have never heard or seen anything and I know hedgehogs make quite a loud noise

They are totally tame, and run across the surface of the water at an amazing speed when I whistle. There are 7 young ones, but the adults never leave the water, just keep a watchful eye. Though when they were young, they did come out to get fed. Maybe they have to watch their weight now. ;D

Wow, WT, clever old Mummy Moorhen to raise 7 babies safely! Should think that's a very good score. Lovely pics btw, they're nearly grown-ups!

We had a baby sparrow on the patio today - still had loads of fluff - really cute . Parents must have had a late brood - I suppose the weather has been a bit confusing for them this year. Ooh - just noticed - that was my 500th post - I'm now a Deputy Head Gardener! Still got a way to go to catch Plocket up though - I joined before she did, as well!

I think he'll have a sore tummy tonight funny you should say that - only yesterday I became aware of a mound of 'cherry laurel' seedlings under a clump of ivy where some pigeons nest... must remember to pot them up... OM. cherry laurels, not the pigeons...

Hi Jenny, this is a good site for info. about badgers: www.nfbg.org.uk/Content/Home.asp - if you can't find the answer on the site, I'm sure they'd be able to tell you loads more if you contact them.

Oh thank you Juliet; there is a photo of a 'ickle baby badger on it - awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwh - I didnt see anything last night - but then there is not much for them to eat on my lawn will get the peanuts and put out around 11pm when I know birds not after them

Cute, isn't it?! Just a thought - please make sure you get peanuts which are guaranteed free from aflatoxin & aren't salted, just in case you do get birds eating them: www.rspb.org.uk/advice/helpingbirds/feeding/whatfood/index.asp (scroll down a bit for the peanuts section). I think you're all right to put out whole peanuts now, but if you put them out when birds are breeding, chop or crush them first so they don't choke any baby birds. Badgers also like peanut butter sandwiches, apparently!

Blimey I had better put up a Menu Board eh ;D I was going to get the Bird peanuts not the human ones and I think that is why badgers have been to see me cos of the bird food I put out
In fact a while ago I was very worried as part of my fence had been broken into - and now I know who did it
As I boarded this up then they dug a tunnel from the field next to my house - I dont mind - my garden is part of their domain now - after reading your web info - so nothing else I can do ;D

Here is a grasshopper snapped this morning - There was another nearby that was a very pale beige colour - snapped 'him' too! And before you ask me - it wasn't a dead one - it sprung off as soon as the camera clicked! ;D
