Thanks for the Nom's ladies. OH and I had been looking at the GF flitting about for ages trying to decide what it was, there were 2 and the pic I got was an 'in the right place at the right time' moment and confirmed it was a young GF. The fluffy young female sparrow is so cute, I snapped her through the kitchen window, good job they were reasonably clean All the young females I've seen this year are so light coloured.

Thanks for nom Ladygardener - OH suddenly started with .. Psst, psst, psssttttt and when I looked in his direction he was standing a foot away from the little thing and even when I went to get the camera it stayed next to OH until I had taken the pic. Then it flew over the fence and showed me the markings in his back - as if he was answering the question that I had asked OH which was - what is it, pity we can't seen the back... We have a family of tits and sparrows that are a joy to watch at the moment, plus a wren that is so elusive that I can hear her/him but up to now I haven't managed to get a pic.. RF

Perhaps the little birds have'nt yet become afraid of humans. I have noticed the baby Starlings will hang around for a while even if the adult flies off. I caught these this week as well, little Starling babies make a huge noise and the only time they stop is when the parent is feeding them.

We were sat on the terrace yesterday evening having a pre-dinner drink (sounds better than "getting sloshed") and kept hearing a peep, peep. It was getting to the point that it was driving us mad and we couldn't see where it was coming from. Finally I saw it - about two inches from my face - a baby wren, heavens knows where the mother was as I can hear it peeping in the garden still.. RF

How very cute Rosefriend, there are loads of baby birds around are'nt there. I managed to get some blurry shots of some of the baby Goldfinches who come several times a day, like the Starlings they chirp all the time although they're starting to peck at the sunflower seeds themselves now instead of relying on the adults. I notice them mostly because they have'nt got their red faces yet. For the most part they don't mind sharing the feeders with other species as seen in the last pic with the Chaffinch who regularly arrives at the same time.

I thought you might like to see what the tree bees nest looked like when OH cleared out the bird box! There were a few dead bees left inside and a heck of a lot of earwigs - The box was quite rotten so it has been binned, at least I won't have the same problem next year!

Chuckles, Well done and thanks for posting those pics. I've not seen a Coal Tit before, such wonderful markings. We get a lot of tits of various types and I love them - they flit about so quickly...bit like sparrows, they are always busy and happy somehow.. RF

Thanks for the Nom's ladies I love taking photos of the birds that come in and around the garden, its a real challenge at times and you can take loads and not get a decent one as most of them are soooooo quick or they are hidden away and you can't get a good view of them. You'd be surprised at what does come into our gardens but you do need patients and be in the right place at the right time and of course have a camera in your pocket and be prepared to lurk sometimes Yesterday I managed to snap a blue tit in the bird bath/drinker a wren on some trellis and managed to video sparrows having a bath and a robin singing its heart out. Its amazing what is about when you take time to look while out and about, my list over the last few weeks is green finch, gold finch, great tits, coal tits, long tailed tits, doves, wagtail, robin, chiffchaff, sparrows, sparrow hawk, wren and blue tit. Heres the wren which is one of the smallest uk birds. The Chiffchaff is also one of the smallest and I'd never seen one until this year, I'd heard it and seen it flitting about hunting for insects in the trees and shrubs and set myself a challenge to photograph it to find out what it was. OH saw a Goldcrest the other day at work, another one of the uk smallest, wished I had been there to see it. www.bbc.co.uk/nature/life/GoldcrestI'll try and post a few more pics

It's wonderful that you have so many little birds visiting your garden Chuckles, you must provide them all with the food and shelter they want for them all to visit. Do keep that camera in your pocket and lurk among the shrubbery as much as you can to take more great pics to share with us. coox
