Hi all ... I thought we might start a thread showing our greenhouses - whether a large walk-in job, a lean-to, a mini plastic thingy or something rigged up by ourselves. Here's mine (Lidl plastic job, not very tidy, currently mainly holding cuttings); The contraption held together with coloured clothespegs is holding my as-yet-ungerminated Monkshood seeds ... cheers

Isabella..............if there was a prize for greenhouses, I think you'd win that too ;D I'll take a photo later, though mine is filled with cut-back Fuchsias, so looks pretty colourless

The greenhouse that Karl built

I love your greenhouse karlslass - it looks very 'classy' - your hubby has done a brilliant job Over 30 years ago my OH made me my first greenhouse - he worked at a big hospital (as a plumber and glazier) and was asked to take a huge greenhouse down as it was no longer needed. So OH carefully removed all the glass and dismantled it and several people were allowed to have the wood and glass and made their own greenhouses from it ;D I don't have it anymore but it did last for a few years. My largest greenhouse was bought second-hand,no.2 I inherited from an Aunt and no.3 I won in a competition ;D

I have two greenhouses. Neither is very spanking at the moment so I will defer on the piccies for now unless I can find some earlier ones from when they were cleaner. Both are Alton cedar GH's as I think this looks better as a garden feature, and also as wooden frames retain the heat better than metal frames. The 'big' GH is 10ft 6in long x 8ft wide (3.2m x 2.44m), whilst the 'little' GH is 8ft long x 6ft wide (2.44m x 1.83m). 'They' always say you should buy the biggest GH that you can afford, which I did at the time, although I now wish I had stretched the budget in 1996 and bought a 12ft long (3.66m) model, as the space would be rather useful now. One thing that I still haven't got around to organising is installing heating in at least the little GH which is the one closest to the house. Maybe next year! Nonetheless, both are in use year round, although at the moment this comes down to providing a degree of frost protection for overwintering plants, and also somewhere to grow my 200 just-sown sweet pea plants.

Treated myself today - to a 4-tier plastic-covered mini-greenhouse thingy from B & Q, this year I can sow a bit more than last ;D I have told OH to blame everyone on GWD for feeding my 'addiction' I mainly blame franqui for my impulsive purchase x Tig

[/IMG]
Does Karl have a friend very similar to himself that is looking for a lady slightly past her sell-by date, but not necessarily her 'best before' This is my greenhouse, full of overwintering Fuchsias

Thanks Chuckles - but I don't want to melt the plastic before it has the chance to blow over a few times, if others experience is anything to go by I am thinking of putting some guide ropes on it - as well as a few sturdy rocks in the base (forward planning already ;D) x Tig

Here's mine. Alton 13 x 10. Full if over winterers last spring. Also have the little upright one as a cold frame on the right. We had that on the balcony on the coast. It has a bungee cord around the top attached to the woodshed to keep it stable. Also useful for tucking in the plastic door. ;D

Green with Envy instead of Green House. But I have a nice coldframe and a large windowsill. So I should not complain. ;D

Now if I could just pop round to WTs, Amos and Snowowls with a few trays I could get on with my sowing plans (apart from the fact that yours are all full!!!) It must be true what they say about the more space you have the more you need ;D

Amo and Snowowl - love your greenhouses. I only have a mini greenhouse as a few weeks ago I had a slight disaster with the strong winds. I managed to salvage most the sweetpeas and the plastic cover was unscathed fortunately. I have now bought a coldframe on the cheap from B & Q again with a pl\stic cover so I obviously haven'tg learnt my lesson. WHAT I REALLY WANT IS A PROPER GREENHOUSE but I am not a very tidy person - a bit slapdash really. I remember my pa sterilising and cleaning greenhouse and I don't fancy that really, so maybe I shouldn't get one. Unless I could afford to pay my own personal gardener (OH or sons?) I don't think so. I used to have a great glass greenhouse but gave it away 12 years ago (I have always regretted it)......I now have 3 mini GH's that have a firm place in the garden - well either in the box that they came in or jammed in a corner.
At the moment they are on the terrace but as soon as summer comes (or before) they will have to be moved.
