I garden for a lady who wages war on any moss which dares to encroach anywhere, including her old stone walls. I have to scrape it all off. For my part, I think it looks far prettier with a bit of moss. Just as well I like it, because if it wasn't for moss, I wouldn't have a lawn

Chuckles - presume these are your 'holiday' pics, rather than what you could find in your 'gaden'? I think I have seen the yellow one and the sooty one growing together. x Tig

Hadn't got my camera on me and I'm anyway I don't think it would have looked good if anyone had seen me on my hands and knees ;D It was similar to Tig's No 6 pic. Not had time to take any other pics but, watch this space

What a lovely thread. I have seen some lovely lichen on a old stone post in a wood. It also most looked blue in the light, I''l go again a take a pic. I love plants that are tiny and grow close too the ground, I have recently planted a mossy plant from New Zealand in the slpine garden, it it sooooo soft green, Ill get a pic of that too.

Its me again sorry re the spelling of 'alpine 'and 'too' is incorrect ... Oh dear! The alpine is a Knawel cushion or scleranthus uniflorus. For mossy garden lovers. It seems hardy ....so far.... fingers crossed.

I've always thought that Liverworts are fascinating as well....I know they can look unsightly in a pot..but if you get right down and look with a magnifying glass at the little palm tree like fruiting bodies...they're exquisite....
Amazing photographs by the way.. ;D

Not looked at this thread for a while. It's turned out to be a really fab subject and it just goes to show how many different mosses and lichen there are about when you start looking and wether you have a camera or not it does make you look at every thing so differently
