Rather than scroll back to page one, cos this is a busy Thread, is there something I should know about this bush that is erm bad and not to be touched for eg I bought one last year and it grew really tall, which is what I wanted. I also have one at the front garden - that appeared - maybe a wayward seed and I do have a lot that are in the paving stones

Oh dear oh dear oh dear Buddleias on the continent do not grow as they do in the UK. Although the ones the municipalty planted in my area are doing well. In my much more clay soil garden they die within three years. No matter how well I treat them. RF too has no luck with these monsters. They keel over. So here we are doing our utmost and,.... zilch nothing nada niente dead. This has us slightly on edge as every one else is doing fine. FINE? They get whopping weedlike growth in walls and pavements and and and and SOB. Then they go and tell me and RF ( she is much more sensitive as I now have one big and one baby Budd growing at MssK ) Boasting about Budds is a no no no on this thread. Yet every one seems to feel the need to get spanked by us and places all sorts of information, be it in words or worse in photo, on here. Life is hard for us poor continental lasses trying to grow Budds. Sorry RF Not sure for whom though

On a serious note, though, this may be of help to RF and Dutchy. I was going through the RHS Good Plant Guide yesterday, and at the end they have a list of plants for different soil types - and it seems that Buddleia likes seriously limey soil. Which explains why they thrive in Dublin (mainly lime), and in rubble, paving cracks etc. (again, probably limey). So, it might help to lime your soil/pots ... just a thought ... cheers (errr .... just been out de-Buddleiaing )

has anyone got a buddleia honeycombe? I just ask because my daughter in lancashire has one in her garden and I've just been over for a visit but I've not seen it anywhere else. It's fantastic for the bees and butterflys and is sweet smelling too.

The one we found in the hyacinth pot is now called Dutchy and so it is only logical that the one found yesterday kidding itself it's a ligularia is now called Rosefriend.
I will hope to post photos of your own buds for you as they grow. ;D

I am honoured Amo but if Rf's and my own good standing with budds are anything to go by they won't make it. Not with our names attached Ooh I do wonder what colour I am going to be...

It just gets worse and worse doesn't - yellow globosa....nah - lovely in the GC as Dutchy has said .......my GH says not to even think about buying it....why do they have them then. If anyone says that they have the new multi coloured Budd I will start sulking ...and as for the new dwarf varieties that are ideal for a tub.......... Just to let you all know what the instructions are for growing Budd's in Germany. Plant in a warm place in a mix of sand and peat. Fertilize immediately after cutting back in the Spring (if it has lived that long) and once again during flowering. Cover with good compost. It can freeze back in winter to the ground - cover with peat and leaves. Flowers can cause headache if smelt too much........yeah...fat chance!! OK here you go ....Dutchy - do not look too long.....I have looked after these like a baby and want them to live.... OM sent me them last year and they have been put in best compost - talked to, watered and loved all winter. They were given the best fleece as well. RF

They do actually have quite different leaves at the moment but I'm not sure if that's just down to how they have grown themselves. I use a Brother P touch 1000 for all my labels. Those two are on the large type setting though. I went to a NGS garden year before last and it was covered in the big white plant pot labels and it looked awful. Not discreet in any way. Went out and bought the label maker as I was starting from scratch anyway.

I must admit that looks like a good investment Amo.
Right - we now have one miracle seedling in The Netherlands, one Dutchy and one Rosefriend (both unknown entities) in the UK and 2 coddled and much loved Budd's in Germany. There are also some German Budd's in Norfolk with OM - that he is apparently treating with contempt!!
Now then can we all post a progress report now and again to see how they are all faring?

Well this morning it was -3 but you both seemed perky enough but as you had just been transplanted, I waited for it to get warmer and this afternoon I tucked you both up with some conifir branches. Not something I would normally do but you could be a bit sensative to your new homes. ;D
