Must feel like a million years away but i've already started planning for the summer.
The focus will be on a small sunken patio, approx 12' x 12' and next to the koi pond at the bottom of the garden.
Last year, i started to get a "tropical" feel after i'd grown some datura, bought some bananas and the plumbego was superb.
So this year will be more of the same. The bananas will go into big pots....possibly dustbins and allowed to grow to form a conopy of the seated area. Underneath, a good variety of cannas....lots of different colours, leaf colours and heights will be offset with Fatsia, bamboo and other "exotic" looking plants. Finally, night scented stock will provide some glorious evening scent.
I have an image in my head how i want it to be.....i'll let you know how it goes.
Any plans for you ?
Andy

How about some "before & After" photo's as well Andy ? Veggie patch is my main priority this year but I'm going to wait before I get started on it because after all the new stuff the kids got for Christmas, Mrs FA now thinks we need to move house.................. FA x

I can't make any plans as yet as I'll be moving house mid/end of feb.
I wanted to start growing some veg and some other stuff from seed but I don't know what type of aspect etc and whether I'll have somewhere sheltered to keep things when I move.
I'm quite pleased that some of the plants that were supposed to have died off during the frosts, haven't and are still going strong so hopefully they'll go again next year. Still got some trailing lobelia flowering!

Cor Jenny..that sounds exciting...we've been trying to buy the bit of land behind our house for years. The council have said that ONE householder on our road has turned it down so the rest of us can't have it! We've had a meeting since then and those attending offered to buy the bit that the OTHER person didn't want...whoever that is....but so far the council still haven't said owt... It's such a shame as all of us are quite keen gardeners, we even asked if we could just turn it into a communal garden, but then we have the problem of the local yobs trashing it or the 'travellers' taking over (as they do on a regular basis) hmph...OOH good luck Jenny, I hope that you get the land. ;D

I want to dig up the front lawn its never been that good anyway no matter what I did with it I plan to have a path winding around it but the whole front garden as rammed with colour as I can get it! OH isn't keen, but he would have to stand guard 24 hrs a day to stop me.............. Actually, he could use one of his ploughs to do it, that could persuade him.................

You`re on, we could do a mini- trial of them and show photos? It seems pretty simple until the support, that might make it a bit more complex, but not impossible!

This year I am going to treat myself to an electric heated propagator to try to get a head start on my veg sowing. Now we have the utility room I have somewhere convenient to keep it. I didn't get a DVD with my T&M catalogue

Just read through all the replies in this thread and I can feel 6 possible project threads appearing in the very near future maybe with pics and progress reports, how exciting ;D I know when I started my projects to transform a chunk of my lawn and borders into a Veg Plot (still on going) and convert a spare dog kennel into a Poly Kennel. I started a thread to share my progress and to get ideas from you guys. gardenworld.proboards103.com/index.cgi?board=photos&action=display&thread=1163087579It really helped me keep motivated and I got some fab ideas and inspiration from you guys too. [glow=red,2,300]So come on you guys what do you think[/glow]andy and his sunken patio and tropical areaFA and his veg patch or even a whole new gdnAprilaydee a whole new gdnCPB possibly an extension to her gdnjennywren and her GH and hopefully some new land for veggiessweetleafs new look front gdn

Don't hold your breath waiting for mine !! We're both getting restless for a move to a bigger property but there isn't anything suitable out there in our price range at the moment. It'll probably be Springtime before anything comes along.

I didn't get a DVD with my T&M catalogue I now have two electric propagators, one wasnt enough as I greedily sowed far too much last year!
