Well this is obviously providence as in the newspaper this morning there is an advert from one of the big GC's and they have a sort of herb fair today and tomorrow.
Strawberry/Herb pots for Euro 15.99 (10.89 Pounds) and herbs ranging from 0.67 to 1.21 Pounds which I feel is good.
The Estragon/Tarragon is the French one - Artemisia dranunculus - or so it says in the flyer.
Also Bärlauch - the wild garlic is on offer.
Wish me luck.

Ooooooh RF are you going to go ;D, sounds like it was a day made for you with your new found interest in herbs. I've planted some of the yellow and green Thyme in the gaps of my path through the veg area and put gravel round them, also planted odd clumps of Parsley in the corner of a couple of raised beds.

Go for it, ;D Herbs are great, fairly easy to look after and really add zing to food (and drink)

So here we go - this is what I have bought. 1 Bay Leaf – Laurus Nobilis 1 Rosemary – Rosemarinus officinalis 1 Thyme “Bertram Anderson” 1 Thyme – "Silver Queen" 1 Gold Marjoram – Oregano vulgare aureum 1 Oregano vulgare 1 Sage – Salbei officinalis 1 Sage officinalis “Tricolour” 1 Melissa officinalis 1 Ysop – Hyssopus officinalis 1 Red-veined Dock - Rumex sangeuineus 2 Winter Savoury - Satereja montana (Beans are never cooked without it in Germany) 2 Parsley 2 Estragon – Artemisia dracuniculus - asked and I was told that is the only one that they sell. They do not sell the Russian one. and sorry Plocket Bärlauch - Wild Garlic - I have planted it in a pot of it's own though. I still need my Chives and the Garlic Chives. As you can see a couple of other things found their way into the trolley as well. They look good don't they? and and I also managed to get myself a Herb Planter. So what do you all think then? RF

Wow, Rosefriend, what a spree - and that herb pot is gorgeous! You say you still need chives - last year I got a pot from the supermarket, about 50c, planted it and it is now a nice big clump. Lovely flower incidentally ;D ... cheers ...

Yep a Hebe - Heartbreaker - not quite sure why because it will not survive the winter probably - just looked nice. The planter was only just over 10 Pounds which isn't too bad I thought - or are they more expensive in the UK? RF

They all look lovely! Just a leetle word of warning about the Lemon Balm (Melissas officinalis) which can become a thug quite quickly! Keep your eye on it!

I love my lil heartbreaker. Looks quite lonely at the moment, just put it into a bigger pot and it looks a bit lost lol
I haven't been able to find one around here for that price RF, I'll keep looking though! I did consider a strawberry planter instead but I'd prefer a herb one.

a hebe heartbreaker? Love the herb planter. I'm after something similar but it's on the "When i'm richer" list. Have a look at this Plantpak website AL. Someone is offering the same thing on eBay but - unusally - it works out cheaper from the manufacturer. If you buy two from Plantpak it's only £25 for the pair with Free Delivery thrown in.

So I finally got all my herbs potted up for the summer and for however long I can keep them alive. I have put them on a corner of the terrace and I can wrap them in fleece for the winter. BTW for anyone wanting a Herb Planter - well I would think twice about it - the bottom holes for planting are terribly small. Here is a pic anyway. RF

Looks great. Will you be using them in cooking? Certainly will Paul - I have already started. Must admit fresh herbs do make a difference. I have always used dried up to now. I just have to remember not to use as much now it is fresh. Yes 4P they are - I am still deciding whether to take the Melissa out and put it in a pot by itself or whether to leave it until next year and then do it. What do you think? RF

RF They look fab RF I always found the Herb Planters I bought difficult to keep watered, it always used to flood out of the holes That one of yours is superb it has better openings with the cup shape, mine was just a lip.

Actually Chuckles, the reason that I gave my strawberry planter away was for the same reason - the water used to flood out of the holes, taking the plants with it to start with.
This one is a little better although the lower cup shaped openings are smaller than one thinks.
Watering is a lot better though.
