...and how many is too many? Like many others I have enthusiastically sown and subsequently potted on my trials tomato plants. As usual, the extra seed I sowed in case of poor germination all grew, so that gives me around a dozen Harlequin (full size) and maybe the same of the Gartenperle dwarf plants. Also I know GP will grow outside as I have grow them before. So far so good. Unfortunately, I appear to have taken leave of my senses when sowing my 'regular' Sungella & Ildi seed (again full size plants). Having just finished potting on earlier this evening, I now find that I am in possession of 19 Ildi and 13 Sungella, so in other words getting on for around 50 plants, including the ones that a relative gave me. The same thing happened last year, and having given myself a good talking too, I was supposed to be exercising a little restraint this year. Then again, I do like tomatoes - fortunately - and they are very good for bartering with.

Spruance I am awash with Marigolds (won't have them in the garden though), Butternut Squash, Rudbeckia, annual Lavetara and Cosmos. I was quite lethal with the tomato seedlings and was ruthless with thinning out, but I'm not counting how many are left. I need to rethink for next year as its getting a bit like a conveyor belt and there is only so much room left on the lottie for the overflow

I swore three years ago that I wouldn't grow anymore toms and chillies and peppers.
Simply because if you are away someone has to keep watering them.
Mmmmh well then we had the trials and I am back to Toms and Chillies and now my neighbour has given me some more Toms.
Marigolds - well I always have them for the Slugs and this year I have been given a load and my OH has decided that they are going to be planted.
The best made plans of mice and men...............

I have a v small garden....and gazillions of seedlings....OH is talking about making the flower bed a bit bigger, but I'll still be giving loads away (more than I'll use in fact!) I was quite severe when pricking out too jlottie...but still have far more than I can house... ..I shall be planting a lot in my Dad's garden, but the rest will be given away. As for the tomatoes...I have 6 surviving plants (and can I tell you something?..I don't even like tomatoes...luckily OH and sons all adore them ;D) I've only kept 1 out of 4 courgette plants, 2 dwarf beans, 2 cabbage and 2 cucumbers (and I'm thinking of getting rid of one of them!)..I plan to only keep 2 chilis and 4 sweetcorn plants..just aint got the room for more I'm afraid

Oh I am pleased that someone else has a small garden and gives loads of things away.
The problem is that when I give things away, I always get things back and I don't want them really..... sounds awfully selfish but I prefer to give I think.
Either that or I need 10 times the amount of land and I wouldn't give anything away because I would need it myself and then I wouldn't get anything back either!!!!!!
Confused - yes - so am I!!

Yes I have the same problem RF! I guess it's just that other people share the same problem of having 'eyes bigger than their plots...!'

I must have that problem but I'm too tight to give them away LOL
Actually that's not true, I'll probably end up giving some stuff to my mum and dad (who have a massive garden) and I'm extending my vegetable patch again....

The trick is to find some one who does not do seeds but loves to get plants and has nothing to give back as all bedding naturally died last year. My mum fits that bill and has a lady who loves gardening who does her garden. I simply show up with the pots and the two amongst them deal with the plants. ( Mum points her finger, Wil gets them in and takes the surplus home )
