The leaves on my plants don't smell of aniseed. When I first crushed the leaf it actually smelt rather unpleasant - can't really say what it was like - but after the initial strong smell, I would say that it smells like plasticine with a hint of mint! ;D

Blimey! It's like wine tasting isn't it? Everybody's "nose" is different. My sense of smell barely functions these days but I can still smell most of the really aromatic herbs. Can't smell when my grandson has filled his nappy though........ ;D

Now you've all got me at it again Spruance that photo you posted looks very similar to what I have. I'm going to have to go and see if I can find any, mine does have a rather odd smell to it so I'll investigate that further too. Hope I can find some now Oooh 4P a filled nappy is that one of those small humans you move away from when you get a slight wiff of something you don't want to be part of ;D

Only if you're not related to it...if it's a son of your flesh and blood apparently it's your bounden duty to clean it up...ew! Sometimes it's good to have no sense of smell.

Ok found some, despite the fact I keep pulling it up Actually it's quite a pretty flower and would look nice especially if you had a large clump of it. The leaves on mine have a soft hairy feel and the stem has a slight prickly feeling to it, the stems are square and the leaves have a smell like a strong nettle smell to me. If you crush it it's even stronger and quite a pugnent smell. Heres my photo's and below them I've reposted yours PG and Spruances so we can compare PG's photo Spruances Photo's

Growing in my back garden, not sure what it is....... It has flowers abit like a Salvia (but the stem is round not angled like a Salvia) and the leaves are abit like a stinging nettle in shape - but without the sting ;D Please tell me I haven't been encouraging a weed Looks like Spotted Dead Nettle to me - lamium maculatum

Sorry if I have missed anyone saying this already, I did have a quick read through the messages, but I have this in my garden, as it comes from the fields around me. I think it is Hedge Woundwort , Stachys sylvatica
