Hi all, This is the plant a kind neighbour gave me. It's already forming quite a clump ... I think it's some kind of Campanula, but am not sure - any ID gratefully received ... ... Cheers ...

Could it be Campanula lactiflora?

Tis indeed campanula but there's so many varieties......latifolia, carpatica, persikifolia to name a few

Hi all ... it's about two foot high, so definitely not carpatica. It would be great if it was persikifolia because apparently that grows in shade (this is planted in full sun, as my neighbour told me to do, but I have a shade spot that would just love it). Anyway, at least it's narrowed to Campanula ... thanks all ... cheers ...

hi canary i may be able to narrow it down a bit, definately not carpatica as it's too tall, and persicifolia is the peach leaved campanula which i have , the leaves on it are longer and narrower, and are more like a rosette around the bottom of the plant and the flower stems are held above the foliage the ones on your plant are yours are different.

Not lactiflora, I went out to look at mine after I suggested it. And not latifolia or persicifolia either. The leaves are weird, unlike anything I have, and that is quite a few varieties. I was going to say "How exciting".......I must get out more!!! I hope someone recognises it

Beenie, thanks, and Weeterrier, thanks for going out and taking a look! A bit of history here: my neighbour is renovating a garden which belonged to a very old lady - lots of cottage garden plants, including this - even a friend of mine who's an expert on Irish plants hasn't gotten further than 'probably a campanula'. I should have mentioned that it sends up loads of side shoots from the ground (about 6 weeks ago, my neighbour simply pulled one up with a couple of roots attached, potted it up and gave it to me - now the sideshoot has its own sideshoots and as you can see is flowering beautifully). Oh well, I guess it's a mystery ... cheers ...

Hi CC, are you saying it has grown that size from one shoot in 6 weeks! What a fabulous plant, whatever it is! Gorgeous!
