Hlo Blackrose.... I'd like to see my two sons settled, happy and financially secure. A nice big win on the lottery would be nice...but that's not really realistic.... I'd like to be able to afford to retire before I'm 106...to move somewhere in rural Leicestershire with a reasonably sized garden so that I can have a veg plot along with my flowers, of course my beloved and I have to be fit and healthy to manage it all....!. I'd like to see 4P on a more regular basis too, once or twice a year just aint enough!

I'd like to get a proper nursery up and running where I live. At the moment I go round to village shows etc with my friend Pru selling herbs, wild flowers and cottage garden plants. We grow everything ourselves. I have a really good site where I live - main road, off road parking and nice scenic (ie knackered) barn/yard to put them. This year I want to get it sorted by clearing up the end open barn, making display tables and generally making it look attractive. I don't suppose we'll make our fortunes but it would be nice to achieve one dream! And I'd like to see darlink CPB more often too (but will have to improve my navigational skills.....)

Oh goodness me that will take some thinking about. I just want my family to live happily and healthily, for as long as they want.
I guess I would like to have a bigger garden - that would be a dream come true. Not that it's likely to happen in the next few years. And I'd like not to worry about finances!!!
And I also wish that a couple of my friends (one Manchester-ish and one in London) were much closer so I could see them more often.

I'm with Cheery there. I'd love to be able to afford to retire before I'm too knackered to enjoy it. There are just so many things I want to do and see and so little free time to do them. Buttercup and I are both back sufferers so have to pace ourselves in whatever we do. Gardening, walking, decorating, etc all take much longer these days. It would be wonderful if we could regain our fitness.

A new job. Any job will do at the moment, as long as it pays as much as I'm currently earning so that I can meet my commitments.
I don't hate my job but I hate the current climate within the organisation and they are bringing in tougher and tougher restrictions on the staff every day.
I'm seriously considering my future but finding the right job is not an easy task.

Hey FA you obviously know your subject well why not go freelance as a tax adviser? They apparently get paid well ;D ;D

I haven't got any formal tax or accountancy qualifications, only years of experience with HMRC. If I went freelance, I'd either have to build up a client base of my own pretty damn sharpish to generate the sort of income I'd need or I'd have to go and work for a firm of accountants or tax advisers, where I'd have to start off as a "trainee" and do loads of qualifications (which can take up to 7 years depending on which ones you do).
It's a nice thought but the practicalities are a little difficult.

So what do YOU think you should or could do Andy? I think it sounds as though you are ready for a change, but as you say you have financial commitments to consider. I hate that we have to work to live these days

To be honest, I don't know what else I could do Plocket. I'm quite practical, got a good head for figures and I know some (well, quite a lot) of the rules & regulations for completing Tax Returns for small & medium sized businesses of sole-traders & partnerships.
Not sure what that qualifies me to do, except being a Tax Adviser and for that, you really need a qualification.
My other problem is my wife !! She works 4 evenings a week from 6.30pm to 8.30pm teaching aerobics. We NEED that money so I'd have to make sure whatever job I got either paid me the equivalent of mine & her money or made sure I could be home early enough for her to still go out to teach.
Unfortunately, jobs like that are not that common ! I might actually see if I can do an accountancy qualification part time while I'm still with HMRC, off my own back. At least then I'll have something to tout round the local accountants !

Do you know any of the accountants in your area, given that you work in Tax?

Well if they know you and you know them isn't that a foot in the door? They know you know your stuff after all, and if you could arrange to do some exams or something at the same time.......? Oh I'll shut up!

I want to be fully self employed within 5 years and be able to retire when I'm 50.
I'd like to have a nice home and a family. Lots of animals and a big garden. After all the troubles I've had in life, I just want to be safe, financially secure and healthy. That would make me happy :-)
If I won the lottery I'd open an animal sanctuary and give money to Cancer Research, RSPCA, Some other deserving charities too which I can't think of right now.

To be able to afford my house in a large village with a bit of history and picturesque buildings. To have that victorian 4 bed semi or detached with a long garden that has been neglected and needs finding again! Lovely village school with everything in reach and a nice town nearby. The children to grow up appreciating what's around them. If I couldn't have that, just to be able to build my extension with an ensuite would do. Oh, and a new kitchen and bathroom. Or if I can't have that much. Just to finish all the diy jobs and get the back garden into a usable state....
