.... buy an avocado some time this week, then do this to the stone, the water must just touch the base of the stone and then lets compare results. ;D

I'm up for it--Going to get the avocado when I do my shopping-- When you say Patience--How Long to wait? Weeks? Months? Can you place it anywhere or does it have to be in the light? I know these are silly questions but I am dumb!!

Mine is on my east facing kitchen window sill - it could be about 4 - 6 weeks before much happens, I think - it's a long time since I last did this.

One grew in the compost, unfortunately I snapped it as I was pulling it free but it was about a foot long & had pushed its way up to the light.

Ooh, I think I have one lying forgotten and mushy in the fridge so I'll dig it out and give it a go.
A friend of mine did this and I'm sure she said she ended up with an avocado plant growing all the way around her living room!
She might have been pulling my leg though...

I only started mine two weeks ago, it looks a little shrivelled...am I doing something wrong? I make sure that the bottom is always in the water..

The outer skin of the stone will dry up and crack, make sure that the water is "just" touching the bottom of the stone though and then be very patient.
