You got it. I always look like the former after a good night, the latter the next morning. That is the power of alcohol.

evening all. i had a very satisfying garden day today. i sowed some perpetual spinach and other bits and bobs. i planted lots more bulbs and dug over the veg patch. i got all the bits of chicken wire out that i cover my veg patch with to stop the cats pooing in it. its ugly but i'd rather that than cat poo. i tidied up a lot and moved a few things. i found an iris i had forgotton i had . my hands were very dirt and my back aches.i love that feeling . it was warm and had an air of late summer about it rather than autumn(or even winter) i am a happy bunny. i have more things to do tomorrow so i will be a happy bunny again then. xxxx

Didn't get much chance to do any gardening today as I took my son to Lancaster ready to start his final year at Uni there. Got back about 5.00pm, so had chance to pot up 50 cyclamen corms that arrived yesterday. (They are not all for me, by the way, but I got the job of potting them up) If the weather is fine tomorrow, I hope to get some tidying up done.

The weather was absolutely glorious yesterday - the kind of summer's day we missed during the summer ;D ...did another batch of weeding, pulled up a few annuals which had gone over, made three 2-litre bottles of nettle slurry ... potted on some cuttings ... moved more self-sown seedlings. Generally pottered ... cheers ...

Just a bit of gentle weeding today to tidy up the beds and borders. Filled the bird feeders (but realised I have run out of sunflower seeds). Planted a couple of Meconopsis which I bought on holiday (with a Slug-out barrier around them - first time I've used it so it will be interesting to see if it is effective)
Yesterday planted onion sets and sowed spring cabbage. lettuce, perpetual spinach and oriental leaves. Dead heading and a bit of general chopping back and tidying up.
Lots to do before winter

I've pulled up all my carrots - they have been rubbish this year, too wet I guess. Tidied round the brassicas and leeks, scattered a bit of growmore around them. I took some more of the larger apples of the Bramley - otherwise the wind blows them off and they bruise

Back at work now so wont get to lottie properly until the weekend but on Saturday I sorted out my compost heaps. I have one just nicely waiting to put on the plot when its been cleared!! The other pile just smells of rotting stuff did some weeding too then pulled my first leeks and had them for dinner on sunday. Pulled lots of Corn on the Cob as its meant to be quite cold later this week and I was scared what it would do, so off they came and into the freezer they went! THEN I went fishing for the afternoon! Only caught a little flat fish (we fished the Tay on Riverside in Dundee) but I dont mind, its just being out in decent weather that makes it fun! Julz

Cleared out an enormous patch of mint ... which I thought I'd done earlier this year ... dug it over, didscovered more roots, forked a bit ... more roots ... three hours later, and I'm pretty sure they're all gone. Planted Allium Moly and Ixia bulbs, as well as yellow Crocosmia in the former-mint-spot. Now feel tired but satisfied ;D ... cheers ...

I have 'harvested' the buddleia today. ;D
I say harvested, because as a result of reducing the bushes to around five feet high to prevent wind-rock over winter, I have acquired three bundles of eminently useable buddleia 'canes' which make very good plant supports. They also blend in better than bamboo canes, and are long lasting, and of course completely free.
I find that it is as well to dry the buddleia canes over winter otherwise they have a tendency to sprout if left in a damp environment.

Oh drat - I shredded all my buddleia prunings - thought they had a tendency to go a bit brittle. I' ve removed dead leaves from parsnips and celeriac, raked over the soil in the main veg plot, and chopped off the flowering florence fennel - but I've left them in the ground as there are side shoots forming! Is this usual? I really want to plant some bulbs. But I don't want to rip out my marigolds as they are still flowering well and the insects love them (bees, butterflies and hoverflies - as per my pics ;D) Tig

Today I did a bit of weeding and dead heading in my Dad's garden....then this afternoon I've finished planting the anemone bulbs, the wallflowers, sweet williams and bellis....also took some cuttings from the 2 osteospermum and lantana...you never know....
Also watered in my last dose of nemaslug for the year.....
oh yes...I moved the foxglove and 2 types of delphinium seedlings in their little pots into the CF as well...I put sharp grit in the bottom the other day to deter slugs and snails...

Great idea OM ... my next garden task is to chop down the wall monster buddleia prior to covering the stumps with weed-suppressing membrane ... so will make sure to save and dry the branches ... cheers ...
