Ooooh, yes, cacti please - pompom Dahlias always make me think of sweater bobbles ;D Jlottie, sympathies with your pink aversion ... I've been fluting around the net and did not find any single-colour seeds, but this mixture from T&M looks quite nice: www.tmseeds.com/product/1490.html

;D Hard to please you two are. I just wrote to the Dutch Assosiation for Dahlia's asking about who sells seed for Cactus Dahlia ( preferably one colour per package). You never know what the answer might bring.

Thanks for looking, I think that I have worked out that not all dahlias come true to seed so I suppose it might be impossible to sell cactus dahlia seeds in single colours. The pompom seed I have is pink but it is a shade that I can live with and might end up on the allotment Just a thought, we could try taking cuttings from tubers as well as sowing seeds, its just I have found a dark coloured dahlia which is just the colour I have been looking for. www.dobies.co.uk/im/pd/BUDAH14972_3.jpg

I fancy CPC's idea of buying plugs and doing cuttings, trailing ones for hanging baskets Thanks Chuckles & other peeps. I am not advocating any particular plug plant. This year I got a very good show from two well developed New Guinea Impatiens which cost me £5.98, but I got 40 plants out of them. I can't locate a photo of them just now....so I'll just show what two B&Q 50p pink & 2 white Surfinia's that a two year old took cuttings of on a Sunday morning in 2006..... Not bad for 2 quid considering you can't buy them as seeds? As for seed trials......I've already got my own mapped out, but am fully supportive and might join in if they "grab" me ;D Cabbage

Whoop Whoop CPC thats amazing all those plants for so little money effort ;D so really anyone could have a go at that and do as many or as few as they like. I'm game We seem to be getting a bit of a theme going now with things that we can all have a go at whether it be in pots/tubs/window boxes/raised beds/small veg garden/allotments or what ever. We usually all help one another along with sowing, techniques and the like so............................ I'm getting itchy fingers, so who else is game for this as a starter list for next years trials Have tried to put names to each. FLOWERSCuttings CPC's idea of buying plugs/plants and doing cuttings for hanging baskets on plants like Bacopa, Petunias, Impatients. jlottie, chuckles, Canary Hanging Baskets - Seeds - Suggestions needed Dahlia seeds - Pompom. jlottie, Isabella, Chuckles, Dutchy, Shrub, Canary Dahlia seeds - Cacti. jlottie, Chuckles, Dutchy Sweetpeas - Any, loads of folk seem to be doing these so I'll find names and it can be a trial to see what is a good variety maybe ? SunflowersVEG SEEDSWhite Beetroot - I have 150 seeds and will sow about 50 so can share the rest with pot/tub growers or who ever else wants to try it. The seeds look like Allbran ;D jlottie, Chuckles Parsley Root - Rosefriend is sharing seeds with RBJ, Dutchy, Shrub, jlottie, Chuckles, Wee, Oldmoleskins and anyone else who PM's her. While stocks last I guess Welsh onion/Japanese onion seeds - Again Rosefriend is sharing seeds, Nightowl, Dutchy, Chuckles, Shrub Squash - Waltham Butternut. CPC see's no reason why they can't be grown in pots/tubs. I have 8 seeds spare if folk want to give a couple a try for a bit of fun. Chuckles, CPB ? RBJ ? If anyone wants masses of the Beetroot or Squash I got mine from here www.realseeds.co.uk/ Beetroot come in 150 seed packs and Squash 14 seeds I'll keep this list on my PC so if I've missed anything or anyone or anyone wants to add there name to these SHOUT UP (bossybuggarsmilie) ;D ;D

I know that this year isn't over but I bet you have all had your seed catalogues and have been thinking of what you want to try out next year. Perhaps a few suggestions to get us all thinking over the winter months and links to where you get your seeds from would be helpful. I usually order from Kings through the allotment society but have held back as there have been some bad reports on seed viability and on other seed companies too. My veggie list is growing as is my flower list but where to order from If it stimulates early interest and discussion, it can't be too early JL - my new catalogues have arrived and are already full of 'postitnote' bookmarks... We are actively thinking of trials for the New Year - though we want to get this year's done and dusted first - and as a mix of our 'suggested' and 'members own choice' made for interesting reading this year, there's no real reason why anyone should hold back on choosing from their seed catalogues while we come up with some suggestions. To be as inclusive as possible, we'll again try to choose subjects that can be grown in the widest possible circumstances. One change we do have in mind... instead of individual member trials threads, we may well have a 'subject' trials thread where we all post - eg 'the tomato thread', 'the bean thread' etc etc. OM. I like the idea of having subject threads OM...I think it'll work much better... may help with us less experienced vegetable growers...then I can ask stooopid questions on the appropriate threads ;D

I think subject threads would be great especially for newbies ;D

Ditto on the subject threads. At least some one might beat me to asking stooooopid questions and received an answer that'll do me too.

This last season has been a nightmare, having lost all my crops to floods, and now the allotment committee has changed its method of ordering seeds and sundries, which essentially prevents me from taking advantage (the alleged organiser is only on site during the week, when I am at work!). Hence I am starting from scratch, collecting everything locally, ie Wilkinsons and the market. What will I be attempting new this year? - Growing onions from seed, may shop tomorrow if seeds are available ...
- Chicory, both witloof and leaf varieties
- Any climbing shelling beans I can find, to accompany borlotti
- A renewed effort at growing chillies
In addition, I will be attempting to feed my family off a range of staples, on my 600 sq yd plot. Here's hoping anyway

Just trying to get all the seeds off to you lovely people. Is there anyone else that would like to try the Parsley Roots and I also have Parsnip seeds and Welsh Onion seeds going spare as well.
If so send me a PM with your address and I will get them off to you.

Both Wilkinson's and the local market had no stock on onion seed, so I walked back home via my allotment, and rummaged around in my shed to find some old seed that had been given me (Bedfordshire Champion). I collected a pot and some compost and have them on my dining table right now, letting the compost soak before sowing the seeds. Time will tell.

I will be growing parsnips again (White Gem) they did me proud this year. I am also going to try and grow cucumbers (without a greenhouse!) and my tomatoes. As mentioned elsewhere I am trying Ailsa Craig onions from seed.
The list goes on - more seeds than space! x Tig

Thanks guys. I have a 600 sq yd allotment, which takes quite a lot of filling (and digging come to that), but I try to feed my family as much as possible off it. Prior to this year, we had not bought carrots or onions for over 6 years. Let me guess. You have a greenhouse DtF. Just a small one - 6ft x 8ft actually, although I would enjoy having a lot more covered space ...
