Sorry LNG, I am not sure what varieties my lavenders are. I have got red, white and various blues. Some have been passed on by friends and some cost me 10p at a GC a couple of years ago - they just needed some TLC. I am trying to do some cuttings this year so I hope they take.

Thanks Juliet, maybe that's the problem, because none of the houses here have many shaded areas. I must take note of that.

It's a good job they like clay wt, because we have plenty of that here. Too much at times, as I wade through some parts of the garden.

Thanks a lot for your advice and help Juliet, will seriously consider a scented Rosa rugosa next year. I have learned a lot about gardening over the last couple of years so I'm sure it would be worth trying. I had my heucheras in the sun but it would have been shady by about 4pm, pretty pink boquet or something I think was the name.

I just love poppies but they are over so quickly. My favourite plant just for the amazing colour from June till it finally gives up is the Yarrow. It is still going strong and attracts bees and butterflies in their droves

Oh I love poppies too jlottie, recieved my seeds a couple of weeks ago, I'll be planting burgundy frills although I like all poppies. I've got a yarrow still in flower but just don't have enough space to have a good display.
