I was on strike from work today so I thought I'd use the time wisely and visit a GC. Found some nice stuff, evergreens in particular. I absolutely loved a Coprosma "Pacific Night" and I'm definitely having one of them. I thought I might plant it with a golden leafed ceanothus and possibly a viburnum tinus as well as I thought that might look quite nice together.
I didn't buy any plants today though for 2 reasons - we were at the most expensive GC in the area (Auricula - Poplar Nurseries at Marks Tey. Very pricey !) and also we have been discussing what to do with our house and we might, just might, extend out the back to put in a cloakroom and dining room/playroom/garden room. If we do, the area where I'd like to plant these plants will partially disappear so what's already there will have to be moved and I didn't want to plant stuff only to have to move it again in a few months.
I'm definitely looking at getting more Winter interest throughout the garden though so I'll still buy what I want when we find it cheap enough !

Hi FA I have two Coprosmas in my garden, one red leaved and the other variagated. They are absolutely stunning, look as though their leaves have been polished! Would well recommend them in any garden! S x

I agree Susie - they looked fab and I'm definitely going to find room for the "Pacific Night" when I know what's happening with the extension etc.

Daphne is nice - I was looking at one of them today at a GC. Not keen on Mahonia though. We had it all round my school when I was younger and it always reminds me of that !!

Sarcococca is a beautiful evergreen with the most heavenly scented flowers about now.
If you want a climber that looks good but doesn't get invasive, try a trachelospermum jasminoides which has clusters of small white highly scented flowers almost all summer.
Twisted willow is nice...although it can get big unless kept under control (salix matsudana tortuosa).
There's a wide range of conifers, pines and spruces as well as slow growing golden upright Yew trees (taxus fastigiata aurea)....Blue pruce are nice too....picea pungens 'koster'
There's lavender, roasemary. bay and thyme as well as choisia in its various colours and shapes.
