Aw bless! I thought sweetpeas needed lots of sun? Now what's the chances of getting some sunflowers started early and having the sweetpeas growing up the sunflowers? I know sunflowers need sun but we started ours off in pots and then planted them up when they were fairly tall. Keep thinking though!

Ooooo nice soil for replenishing LP's garden! I can send her out with a sack - how many mole-hills do you think an LP can carry? ;D

Depends on the moles inside them ;D Send her out with a bucket, she is less likely to poke her fingers through and tell her to only fill half. You don't want to give her a Hernia at her tender age.

Still thinking on the flowers. Somehow starting sunflowers now seems not right With the days/light still shortening it will refuse to grow. Hm shade how about Nasturtium but it can't be outside for months so it will go leggy. Thinkin thinking........

Just had a flash... Inside flowers a few bulbs. Dump a few tulips in your fridge. First week in the cool bit next few days in the minus 18 and out into the cool part for some more days than into a pot in a cool room ( Have you got a toilet with a window and no heating? Good place to sit and look at it ;D ) Then after it has got its flower head take into Little P's room or the livingroom and see it come into bloom.

oh no we don't start the sunflowers now - we start them off late spring She's already got snowdrops and hyacinths for spring but I like the idea of tulips. I'm sure I've got some bulbs somewhere - it's just a case of finding the right pot! And nasties too - I must have some seeds somewhere Thanks Dutchy!

Ah my mistake I thought you were going to start the poor girl on a winter trial of your own devise ;D Nasties can live in shade and sun. I stole some seeds from some one who leaves them lying about so I could go and see if there are still some there although the plant itself is now blackened by frost.
You are welcome.

Oh that's very kind of you Dutchy but I've already found some Nooo I'm not doing winter trials - the little garden isn't ready anyway! I'm going to wait until spring for LP to start pulling out all the dead stuff. Besides there isn't room in our composter at the moment How's things with you by the way? I haven't seen so much of you recently.

I have been bussy at MssK's garden and somehow this time of year a lot is going on. Work is hectic with new policies for Art in our community having to be written, my gallery keeper is between galleries and wants advise and help as I make exhibitions as well. The new Studio route for 2008 has to be set in progress and I am out collecting material for new artwork as the light is not good enough for working in my studio. The hobby bit ;D Gardening. Well there is Mssk's garden which throws up new things whenever you do something. Going through seed catalogues and finding out about veg and companion planting and trying to get garden DIY stuff for free. My own garden is doing fine just got the last of the crocus bulbs in and I think I am fine now. I tried to dig up the Jeruzalem Artichokes but found nothing Could be my wet clay and the shady position that resulted in it kicking the bucket. That or next Spring they will be all over ;D. I also volunteered to do the website of our local part of the Dutch Horticultural Society so that will take some time and I am off to Minsk soon for some social obligations. OH birthday this weekend. I got him a Dragonrfly ;D An electrical one you can fly inside. That will be fun . So I am not as often on here. That is it in a nutshell ;D

You managed to kill off Jerusalem artichokes? I'm impressed, Dutchy When I set myself to it I can be very incredible However having killed the ones in the shade I failed at killing the ones in the sun they had some tubers but not as prolific as they are supposed to be. ;D

That is it Plocket, excactly as you see it. It has spare wings that are more like a Dragon fly's wings but these computerized ones are very pretty. btw He is still playing with it and has already crash landed on a neigbours car and on the shed. ;D Good thing the weather is keeping him in right now

Hehehehe! I can see the attraction of it, but at the same time would find it annoying if someone else was buzzing one around me!!! I don't think I'm going to get one anyway ;D

Don't worry the control is pretty hard it will crash before it crosses the channel ;D Since you are certain you will not get one I do hope there are other nice things on your list that you will get.

PHEW!!! Oh yes! I've given OH a comprehensive list (not that we go OTT you understand!) so that he's got plenty to choose from. I like to receive something I want but not know what I'm getting, if you know what I mean. I've started a thread about what people are asking for from Father Christmas

No but there are things there . The Langoustines might be an interesting one to ad to the list. Life ones please for my pond ( or do they need salty water? )
|
|
|
Post by Plocket on Dec 6, 2007 14:43:36 GMT
Mmm but the langoustines might be a bit smelly if they are left under the Christmas tree for a while! There must be freshwater crayfish or something suitable for your pond, although they might eat anything else in there!

Already had one that wandered in but I found it dead. I suppose the Newts won the battle then. No fish in my pond as they eat the egs of the newts and I prefer newts. So back to an empty christmas list then Or clothes pegs in case I do get a langoustine
|
|
|
Post by Plocket on Dec 6, 2007 17:38:40 GMT
Hehehehe! Let's hope it is just the one langoustine then - more would create more smell wouldn't they? ;D I prefer newts to fish too. I released two into our garden earlier this year, rescued from a friend's garden where she was having some building done (not rare newts though). Unfortunately though they are both females so will have to hunt around for a mate. There's plenty of ponds around so that shouldn't be a problem, but they might not come back

Post by Dutchy on Dec 6, 2007 18:32:22 GMT
My newts wander in as early as march and stay untill july after that they usually have wandered off again. Very much like the frogs. At times you still see some in the garden. You never know, now your pond has two lovely ladies in it there might be gents wandering in to have a chat.

Fingers crossed hey? It would be lovely to have newts - I think they are great little creatures. I'm hoping to pinch some of mum's newt-spawn next year, instread of frog-spawn. We had a lot of frogs in the garden this year so I'm hoping one or two will stick around, and perhaps then we can encourage the newts to do the same
