Thanks Chuckles, I pruned it back the other day to some healthy buds ;D I love it too. I've got it in the ground now a good bit deeper than it was in the pot.

I reckon I've done the last of the Clem pruning this morning, just got to top dress the ones in pots now and mulch around the garden ones, must remember to feed. I saw Carol Klein trap down a few stems to get them to root, not tried that before so might see whats available to try. I did put a few cuttings in pots and left them near the mother plant to see if they strike. I've had some success before doing that, some Petit Faucon www.clematischoice.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=132 I did last year are shooting now from below the compo, its a really pretty clem and I grow it in a largish pot. I'll have to pot those on and keep an eye on them, plants for free, love it ;D

I'm well pleased, the clem I mentioned earlier has produced 8 out of 12 from the cuttings, the single shoots on each ranged between 1" to 2" and they all had lovely root growth of a couple of inches in length. Found a Clem that I've had to totally pull out, it had rotted at the base and just snapped away www.clematischoice.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_7&products_id=37 it is rather a rampant clem and I've got another in the garden so it's not the end of the world. I bought it seeing it said 'scented' on the label but I can't say as I ever noticed it. Anyone else got one ?

Do you mean the Terniflora Chuckles - it looks very pretty - as notice on the link Pamela Jackman appears Had her for many years and flowers March but never noticed any perfume in fact none of my clems have a perfume I think Freckles did but I found that too sickly - she isnt with us anymore tho

Yes Jenny the Terniflora is supposed to be scented, I've just done a search on here www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemlist.cfm for fragrant clems and there are 262 Can't see Freckles on the list, I've got it though. I have Wadas Primrose that is scented, can't remember what its like now, will have to get my nose around it when it flowers ;D I've also got cirrhosa 'Wisley Cream' and Balearica and 'Rhapsody' that are on the list.

I have a clem in a pot, it grows up a trellis under the kitcen window, this year all the top growth up the trellis, looks dead, but it has about ten new shoots growing from the base , should I cut off the old stuff up the trellis do you think , I'll take a picture tomorrow if that helps.

Is it a named one Barbara? If you don't know when does it flower and what do they look like? I've had to cut a few of mine back a bit, and I reckon some of them may not flower very well this year because of it, whilst others are happy flowering on this years growth, like Princess Diana Fond Memories is still asleep (or dead) x Tig

Could it be 'Aljonoushka'? This is one which needs help to keep it in place as it is non-climber. If it is, then it is then advice is 'cut back hard Feb-Mar' x Tig

If it has new shoots growing from the base Barbara chances are its a group 3 Clematis which need hard pruning, so yes cut off the old stuff, the new shoots will bear this years flowers. Looking at the pic on your thread Tigs right it looks like Aljonushka, love the name www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=1

On Chuckles link it says it's an integrifolia Barbara, if it's any help I've cut mine back to the ground already & it's shooting. Tig, my Fond Memories is shooting, but only about 3 tiny shoots on one spindly little stem. Crystal Fountain is only shooting at the bottom & I've bitten the bullet & cut all the top growth off, so at least if she does grow, the stems should be a bit stronger. I'm not sure which is better really i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif Jillyx

Don't forget to give it a liquid feed Barbara, anytime now - it should perform even better for you Jilly I'm relieved to hear that your Fond Memories is only just showing signs of life, I won't despair for another fortnight then! x Tig

I had problems with my Princess Diana last year Tig, several stems died right back to the base. Thought it may have been wilt to start with but not all of the stems were affected. I then thought maybe the stems had got broken low down but no sign of that either. Bit of a mystery but I was really pleased to see 5 lovely young shoots about 2" long today when I was having a trim up.

I had the bestest performance from my Princess Diana last year, once it started it didn't stop!! And the seedheads are so golden after the flowers have gone over, it is one of my favourites. I've got shoots all up the older wood (but I have cut it back to strong growth) and there are new shoots at the base too I bought a Pamela Jackman last year after admiring Jennys, it has new shoots all over the place, 10" from where I planted it, hmmmm, is it a bit of a rampant clem??? x Tig

The flowers on P Diana are quite waxy Barbara, she is self supporting, and the seedheads are the most striking of all my clems IMHO anyway x Tig

Anyone got a Marjorie - I am not sure if she has died over the harsh winter She flowers beg May so maybe am too anxious but she looks quite dead - I plucked at a bud and it was green underneath but still not sure If anyone has one is it budding or in flower yet - you dont prune Marjorie just tidy her up
