I never know what to do with those potted bulb plants when they have flowered Here is a photo of my Paper Whites taken a while ago; they are now straggley and finished flowering. Do I put them in newspaper for next year, or can I plant them in the garden If so do I cut their leaves down

I am not quite sure myself but I always leave the leaves on and take the flowers/seed capsules off and treat then normally.
I have left them until Autumn having dried them etc and I have also just bunged them it as soon as I got around to it.
Either way they have flowered again but I would suggest you let the leaves die down naturally as you would in the garden.
I hope someone else posts because what I do does work but may not be the best way.

Thank u Rose I think I will "bung" too and see what happens - better than rotting away in my shed as they seem to do in the past jenny x

Always leave the leaves of any Narcissus on. The bulbs need them to fatten up for next years flush of flowers. Just put the pot in the garden ( sheltered spot ) and leave them to it. Once the leaves are brown/dead you can wrap the bulbs up. I always use newspapers as there is plenty of it. You might have to check for mold once and again but that is it. Replant around November/December and they might bloom again around April. Paperwhites are not the strongest Narcissus. I find that "tete a tete"can be planted straight into the garden and will all come up next year but Paperwhite tends to go straggly and erratic. The bulbs are probably forced to extremes when you buy these ready for indoor plants. Also these smell good and somehow the nice smelling Narcissus are weaker. Having said all this, when they do come up next year they are for free and one can't complain about that eh?
