I bought one of thse last autumn and planted it in my front garden. It's still alive, but looks very tatty. The leaves have brown and black splotches, and it doesn't seem to have grown at all (although thre are buds at the end of each stem which I assume will be flowers?) Some of the leaves have come off, it can get pretty windy out the front. What can I do to help it?

A gorgeous...and pretty indestructable shrub .....it's one of those plants that look tatty for a while until you notice it a few years later and it looks gorgeous. They're fairly slow growing and don't get very tall...i have one at work that was around 3' high and 5' wide when i took over the garden.....well it's still 3' high but about 8' wide now....and that's in 6 years. Wait and see what happens, plants do need a bit of time to adapt to new conditions....and i'm sure your ugly duckling will turn into a gorgeous swan ;D

I hope so Andy! I love it, but it's beginning to look very scruffy, and with the red robin next to it going through a tatty phase....
