I have just mabe a new boarder on my front garden. It has 8 Hostas in at the moment anyone got any ideas what i can grow with them. The new bed is on the corner and is not to large but the hostas look a bit lonely on there own at the moment. I would like something colouerfull and low growing that wont overtake the hostas. Any ideas anyone.

How about Astilbies or ligularia....something with foliage that will contrast from the hostas in both shape and colour. Lobelia cardinalis would be a good choice too. The only problems is that slugs love all the above

A good idea with hostas is to plant lots of spring bulbs all around the crown of the plants in the autumn. The spring bulbs have all finished by the time your hostas open up again and give you some nice colour whilst your waiting.

Ligularia are beautiful, I love the tall black stems holding up those lovely spires of yellow flowers that tower high up above the leaves .

What about some Euphorbias? There are some lovely ones, all sorts of beautiful bright green flowers and red/green foliage. Year round colour and the slugs WON"T touch 'em.

Blue flowering Corydalis would be a nice combination, or Artemsia "Powy's Castle" with its silvery leaves or for some quick colour what about Eschscholzia sprinkled around between the Hostas?
