Hi all! My 'Margaret Merril' is about 4 feet high at the moment, but in a container about 14 inches square. I think that she needs a bigger pot, but I don't want to move her at the wrong time. Should I wait until the autumn? or would leaving her in a tiny pot over the summer do more harm?

RM, just looked it up a nice clean white, she is still not fully grown yet, are you thinking of open ground or another pot? If she is 4 foot I assume she has been in that pot for about 2-3 years? Also assuming she is in flower now or very close to flowering. I do not think another flowering season in a pot will do her any harm, it may well make her flower more profusely. Just make sure you feed her when she starts flowering and keep her well watered through the Summer. When you do move her make sure destination is well prepared before removing from current pot. I'm sorry if that sounds patronising but the times I've stood there with plant in hand thinking "that hole is not big enough" or "I should have added fertiliser ". Then just keep her well watered.

Thanks for your hlp, Fozzie I am planning on putting her into another pot, but I think I'll wait until the autumn. It is the most beautiful rose, with a heavenly scent.

Hello Rosemother, isn't Margaret Merrill the most beautiful rose? So sweet and not showy, but what a scent. Sadly, deer eat my roses, so I am having to stop growing them in most of my garden. Hope you get loads of pleasure from yours. Have a good sniff for me?
