Hi all,
Two years ago I sowed a pack of 'McKana', last year they all came up, this year they flowered and I have quite a few self-sown seedlings. I've read that aquilegia seedlings revert to type (i.e. that the seedlings will come up as the common purple aquilegia). Is this true? Reason I'm asking is to know where to move the seedlings, colour-wise ... sorry for another real novice question ... cheers ...

A lot of Aquilegias seed true to type but I think that the McKennas are hybrids aren't they? And hybrids ( of anything as far as I know ) do not. I think I'm right but no expert.

Thanks, Nightowl ... it'll be interesting to see how they turn out! ... Cheers ...

Those white ones are beautiful Chuckles. I find that the purples are the first to flower and the pinks and lighter colours are a couple of weeks behind and seem to last longer.

They really are! I much prefer the Granny's Bonnet's types to the American Aquilegias. I have some lovely white ones with golden foliage. They're REALLY pretty.

Never thought about which colours last the longest before but your right JL the pale ones do last longer. I just love clumps of white flowers in the garden.
Your white sounds nice 4P and definately Granny's Bonnet's types are the best. I like the Nora Barlow type aswell and have grown from seed this year in the Poly at the moment. I've had the main plant for a few years now but it's never self seeded so I'm pleased I managed to get some going. Fansy some Black Barlow sometime too.
