I could never grow Delphs in the garden, they always got eaten as they put up shoots or they didn't survive through not bing established plants and having a good root system The way I've found works for me is if you buy smaller plants in 4" - 5" don't plant them until they have a really good root system. I pop them in a bigger pot and nip out the flower shoots so they put energy into roots rather than flowers. Ok you have a wait and you still need to watch out for slugs as soon as you see the young shoots appearand apply pellets but I've had a better success rate with them doing this. Only other thing is buy bigger more established plants.
