Seeing as it is a gorgeous day here (still wanted snow tho!) I thought I'd get a few pics from under my tree... That is my eldest daughter checking it out as she helped with the planting and Not sure what they all are (not sure some aren't weeds!!) but time will tell I am sure. Just need to get the weeds out and it will be beautiful once they are all in flower. Need to get a screen up to hide the composter etc once the stormy winds have died down a bit so I don't loose it!! That's a lively looking border Jardack. Lots going on there and will be lovely when in flower. Had you thought about using hazel or willow for the screen behind the tree? You could grow some evergreen climber (clematis?) up it for all year round round interest. If it's a sheltered spot, clematis armandii flowers in winter/early spring and would look lovely.
This is a numpty question, but what is that fan-shaped thing in the tree?

Thanks guys The fan shaped thing is a windchime thing - not a musical one but it was originally different colours, they've all just faded in the sun. It twirls in the wind but was tucked up as was attacking my daughter! Hadn't thought about hazel or willow, would that be ok in the shade that would be there in the summer tho ? Jardack

Tis looking good JD How about a climbing Hydrangea up a fence panel to hide the bins. They can take a while to get going, well mine has but they are so pretty with Creamy White flowers on it would keep the area brighter They say they like moist conditions but mines in a fairly dry area, maybe thats why it was slow to get going (note to water more often) www.gardeningexpress.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=12304Me being a NooNoo occasionally ;D it took me ages to work out WIP.... work in progress

Chuckles, that looks really pretty but it is so dry under my tree I am not sure it would survive...

Jardack You can buy hazel or willow as sticks Jardack and weave them together to create a fence (needs tethering/fixing to posts at intervals so that it's secure). It gives a natural look to the garden. Or an easier option is to buy them. This link will give you an idea of what they can look like. www.primrose-london.co.uk/willow-hurdles-c-65.html?source=googleads&gclid=CLPqxqrmqJECFQuIMAodWzAqYg

Your 'under tree' patch is really bursting with life, but it is totally surpassed by the cuteness of your wee girlie. ;D

Fabulous, but I have to agree that your eldest is gorgeous and does detract from the planting
