She is a beauty. She probably really like you because she knows you don't like cats. She is above all that, after all.

May be a 'looker', but not much good at shoveling... sat there and watched me unload this trailerfull of bark mulch today. First one to make a comment including the word 'barking' goes to the naughty shed with Spruance... OM.

She is definitely making herself at home, I bet she won't go in the house though? Does she venture into a shed or greenhouse/PT if the door is open? They are so cautious, but very loyal once they do decide to be friends Mine has began shouting her head off just after lunch time, because I relented and let her in early during the high winds, that was a mistake, she is now 'entitled'! Obviously!

Does she venture into a shed or greenhouse/PT if the door is open? I dunno where she goes at nights... certainly not indoors, although she has been in the house. If I leave plenty of escape routes she'll wander through. And as soon as I open a shed or stable, she's in like a shot. Funnily enough, I was thinking only today - if it she ever does get so indoors is where she wants to be during the day, do I put her out at night, like in the Flintstones? OM.

Cat knows she goes out everynight OM We have a cuddle before she goes and she has some food (depending on her mood, she is still very fussy!) I have watched her go on a tour around the neighbourhood (she crosses a fairly busy road at the front of us ), but she is usually back yodelling at about 7am and she is sooooooo loud!

She will need vet attention OM - for eg her jabs to protect her from diseases etc How will you cope with that - she is just so beautiful - you are so lucky she chose you - take care of her

She inhabits an island world half a rural mile from anyone else (though we do get other cats up here sometimes) so it's a very natural] world. I think she's more at risk as a potential fox-snack than from most normal feline perils... mind you, if she carries on scaring me in the polytunnel and using my salad beds as a bog, she might find the tuna supply suddenly cut. There's a feline peril. OM.

I'd say just get a cat flap rather than worry about her being in or out at night. Schmickles used to stay in but would disappear for a while for a mooch. If I made her stay in she'd get quite annoying, as beautiful as she is.
She doesn't particularly go out too much or go out for long, I think she just likes to know she can go out if she wants to. The other two haven't left the bedroom for nearly a week though lol Now their stitches are out, I'm going to get collars for them tomorrow and we're going to practise using the cat flap over the next few days. Well, THEY'RE going to practise using it, I wouldn't fit. ;D
I also don't think you'll have to worry about foxes. Found this from another site: Do foxes kill cats?
This is very unlikely. A survey in north-west Bristol where foxes are particularly common showed that they could only attribute 0.7% of cat deaths per year and these were mostly stray kittens from feral populations. Yyour cat stands more chance of being run over. Foxes are only marginally larger than cats and only weigh 5.5 kilos and cats are very capable of sticking up for themselves.
And if she's anywhere near as gobby as Schmickles, they wouldn't dare!!
Apparently, growing rue around areas you want to keep cats out of works and you can also buy these crystal type things (that the smell of I find very sickly, not sweet but sickly) that cats don't like. I used them to stop Shads pooing in the flower bed that I had veg in. He thought I'd dug them over to make it easier for him to have a poo. It worked though. They're like clay impregnated with something so they're not harmful to the soil. I dunno. They're sold at B&Q so have a look.
Also why not try getting her onto normal food instead of just tuna? Try starting off with those pouches of tuna in jelly for example. Buy a single one first to see if she likes it (I'm sure she will cos all my cats have gone ape over them) and if she does, buy like a "fish selection" box to see if you can get her eating different fishy flavours. Hopefully then she'll stop doing the pheasant thing.
I also used to try and feed mine at roughly the same time each day so that might work in getting her into some sort of routine?

There are quite a number of lovely cats round here where I live - I have two dogs - and they (the cats) are so arrogant they just SIT on their doorsteps and DONT MOVE - even when my dogs are barking like mad to "get at them"
Cats rule OK - is the rule round here ;D

My sister's cat was attacked by a fox and lost a leg as a result of it. Her vet said it was much more common than people thought - I presume because they are after similar prey rather than any other reason. And I know this will be an unpopular thing to say but I think Lulufish has probably had enough injections (assuming her previous owners cared enough to do that) to protect her for the rest of her life. My cats are not given any of the jabs after the first 3/4 times and I have never lost a cat through any of those diseases - I think all but 1 has died of old age..... it sounds like Lulufish has worked out her life just the way she wants it!

Judging by it's attitude it may well have one on each shoulder. Doesn't have a fretting owner though that remains a (fading) hope... OM

JW I think she went AWOL, they put up posters but she just didn't want to go back to them. Obviously preferred OM's house.
I must admit, I've never lost a cat to any of the diseases that they're meant to be vaccinated against but as I have them insured now, I have to get all the bits and bobs done otherwise the cover is invalid.

We've started a dialogue. Well 'dialogue' is probably too strong... this morning, it she came round the corner, saw me with a tray of food (this is not just catfud, this is OldMoley's succulent bits from last night's roast chicken catfud) and clearly said "wow" in a sort of Bette Midlerish way. It may have been the sight of me, it may have been the thought of breakfast, who knows. Anyway, I sort of went "wow" back in my best Bette Midler way too, and after that it was a very fluid exchange, even if it was limited to "wow" on both sides.
In the end (very shortly actually) we got fed up with that and breakfast was served. But it's a start. I may teach her the lyrics to "Rabbit" by Chas and Dave... she's a very intelligent cat, I'm sure...
OM.

I have tears streaming down my face reading this ;D I have the 'wow' conversation too OM - with the occassional 'prrrrrrmp' thrown in, if desperate for food or my attention it can be a very high and elongated 'MeeeeeOwww' We have a mutual understanding of several of my words now - 'NO' has some effect, when it suits her normally! She's clearly decided you are worth the trouble OM - oriental cats are not as easy to "read" as moggies. I've got one of each and the Persian is the more difficult to understand than the Moggie. With him its definitely what you see is what you get!
Today she howled when I'd given her the last titbit of smoked salmon and she realised there was no more coming her way. She believes she's of neglected, not loved or cared about - ;D ;D

I love this thread too OM, I also have the "wow" conversations with my cat, but I believe most of the "wows" are actually "NOW!"s, as in "feed me/let me in/let me out/give me a tickle, NOW!" ;D ;D I really do think you're making a rod for your own back with the Old Moley's Special Roast Chicken and Succulent Tuna dinners. Tinned or pouch food is so much easier, and has extra catty vitamins and minerals added. The crunchy dry foods are good too and most cats love them. Is it that you think if you buy cat food from the shops it will be like saying "My name is Old Moleskins and I HAVE A CAT"!!!! ;D ;D ;D
