I agree with you there Amo - it certainly looks like Lithodora to me as well. Lovely little plant and can be used a ground cover.

thank you Amo and Rosefriend, I've trained it up a chicken wire thingy to cover the post at the gate and love it's beautiful colour but never knew what it is called.

That is a good idea to train it up wire ......basically anything that can hangs can also go up can't it - or laid down. Petunias and bacapo make lovely ground cover.

Good idea about the alternative use! Perhaps we should all experiment more. ;D

thanks for the link Chuckles, I hardly ever go to name that plant as I'm useless with names of both plants and people ;D In my garden RF and Amo, it would just have been swamped if I'd let it grow as ground cover and I do actually like it reaching up the post at the gate, it really stands out and of course it keeps it's leaves all winter. ;D

Lithodora diffusa "Heavenly Blue" ;D ;D Super--you always manage to remember Latin names. I once remarked on this before and you did explain to me that it came naturally to you--I can never remember names and just go by colour/ shape/size- ;D- Bigs

Oh Bigs, if only you knew! I USED to be able to remember latin names and I could name many plants, even those I'd never grown. However, these days I'm not so good (but I do know the ones I grow..............except when the name just won't come!)
I put it down to not reading so many plant books/magazines as I used to...............nothing to do with my age you understand!

Mind you I can still sometimes surprise myself when I'm nattering away about gardening how many I know. Now ask me the name of someone or a place I've been.... nope, haven't a clue!! And the other thing is, I'm absolutely terrible at languages! It must be just down to the regular use thing.
