Sorry! I know, I know....but I'm obsessed!!!! ;D I think I've managed to convince my better half that I neeeeeeed one , but we're now squabbling over the price I think I've found a reasonable compromise, but thought I'd ask you lot for your opinions ;D www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7050840/Trail/searchtext%3EGREENHOUSE.htmSooooo, is it worth it? It doesn't have the auto vents and louvre that I'd like (mind you, do I really need them? ), but I wanted the safety glass and am impressed by the 20 year frame guarantee. Opinions gladly welcomed!!!! ;D

First off, why that size? Could you squeeze a bigger one in? You'll always want more space!! As it's 6ft, the door will act as a second vent with the window if you leave it open slightly. (Not in this wind though!!) One will do in a small area but two openings make the air move. Safety glass is a good choice! Have you also considered polycarbonate too? Places like Two Wests & Elliot do quite a selection (eg for that money an 8 footer plus a couple more vents) and you might get a couple of extra feet for your money. Then we're back to how much space do you have. Also, Don't forget to budget in for a slab base to put that one on and it will need bolting down too, I should think. Don't be too hasty RM, that's quite an investment money wise and you're going to live with it for a long time!

Hmmm. I'm a little put off by polycarbonate, as I live on a hill and I don't think it'd cope with the wind Also, I've been told that it can go 'cloudy' and I just don't think it's as pretty

I've got a polycarbonate one RM. I would've preferred glass but we get lots of wind here and when it's very strong (as of late) I'd fear the glass would be broken so opted for polycarbonate. It's been great, if a little noisy!!! The pc 'gives' so makes interesting noises on a very windy day. The only down side I've found is that it's more likely to leak than a glass GH. All the joints have to be sealed and if you leave gaps, the water finds its way through!!
I've had it three years (I think) and it's not gone cloudy yet. It stands on a flag base and has been very firmly tied down. I dont reckon it'll last 20 years though - more like 10 perhaps. But still value for money. It's an 8x6 and cost £300.

My honest opinion is that it's an awful lot of money for a 6 x 6. I appreciate it has safety glass but as other have mentioned, polycarb would be a far better choice. Not only does polycarb let in lots of light, it's as tough as old boots and i've never known it to go cloudy. Just my humble opinion

Ooh, now you've gone and made it all difficult again!!! ;D I thought polycarb wouldn't do because of the wind issue, and I didn't want to go for horticultural glass as I have two young boys Hmmmm. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced GH?

I got mine from B&Q RM and have loved having it. Although, as many have said, always go for the biggest one you can (price-wise and size-wise) afford. Because you'll fill it and wish you'd got a bigger one! Have you tried ebay?

With the wind problem, you'll have to anchor it down whatever you get. Mines a 13 x 10ft glass cedar and it still has bolts every 18 ins or so into the kerbs.

I like the look of your greenhouse RM. I agree go for the biggest you can afford. I don't know anyone who has had a problem with glass re the wind. We live on a very windy site. I chose not to have slabs or anything inside, only a little path. I plant straight into the soil in the greenhouse. Then change the top soil every two years. I find tomatoes and peppers etc are easier to care for in the soil as the watering isn't so crucial. I have staging where I put other plants. I also grow plants under the staging in the soil. It seems to work well. This GH is only small. I have done the same with a bigger one though at the last house. Good luck enjoy with your search. FF x

That does seem a little on the expensive side for the size. Have you tried B n Q or Ebay (I sold one on ebay and got £50.00 for it despite quite a few missing panes!) I would have automatic vents especially if you are out all day. I really wish I had them on mine, I quite often come home to wilted or scorched seedlings when the sun has been out and I forgot to open windows/door No matter what size you get it will never be big enough never ever ever let us know what you decide, whatever it is you will love it ;D

A little tip for you RM. When you are in the GH it can get very hot. If you are out there alone & not within calling distance of the house take your mobile with you. It saves all those dirty finger marks on the door, you can just request a cup of tea or a glass of what ever takes your fancy. Janet.

Just been having a chat with my good lady and she's said i can have a greenhouse (not that i really wanted one). At present, the conservatory acts as my GH but we want to get it back to a living room. I need somewhere to overwinter my bananas, cannas, begonias and other exotics so we allocated a place for a 6 x 4 greenhouse.
;D ;D ;D
