That Rhododendron is really early isn't it Tig - infact they all are. Makes me wonder if we are going to have any winters again. Although we are later that the UK there must be something that is thinking about peeping through - will venture out after the storm. Oh and the Rhodo gets a for making me feel good - it is a lovely pic Tig - thanks. RF

No, I don't think we will get real winters again. I have an Erysimum 'Bowles Mauve' in flower. It used to be that they didn't survive a Scottish winter. Also, all my half hardies are still alive in the greenhouse, despite the door being open, a pane missing from one side and no heating.
Well done Tig. Dicentra are so pretty.

Very nice photo's Tigridia. The gardens are early this year.
I don't think that we will get many hard winters again either, more is the pity. It certainly got rid of a lot of the bugs.

My passiflora hasn't dropped its leaves this winter, it has new growth starting, and still has some buds from last year. Having said that we have had temperatures down to -8C at night, and quite a few nights at -5 C or lower, so it has been chilly, but quite dry with it, which seems to make a difference

I have braved the elements this morning and taken a few pics of things that are very early for me...may not be in the UK. Day Lilies (Hemerocallis) and to the left some Wild Tulips - I did think that the tulips would have flowered before the Hemerocallis got too big....wrong!! White Phlox - well I know that it can come early but it is a little large.. Variegated Iris - far too early.. Lupins - never had them this early - just ripe for the Slugs - must find the pellets. Red Phlox which is higher than the daffodils which are only just coming through. Still a little early but acceptable - Tree Peony RF

It's great to see how things are coming on in different places, my white phlox is only up a few inches RF and it's been much milder here than where you are. no sign of my lillies at all, your Dicentra looks great Tig, so healthy.

You're miles ahead of me too RF. Tree peonies are still twigs etc. It is happening though.

I really am amazed that some things are a lot further than in the UK - why though? My daffs and tulips are way behind but perennials seem to be ahead.
It has been very mild for Germany - even so - the UK is milder.

My hemerocallis are shooting through really well, but most of the rest is still showing just about an inch. This time of year is great.

The other odd things is that Amo's Akebia looks like this (sorry Amo - I took this from your place!!) and mine, although some things are further on - looks like this. and it is in full sun. Bit of a difference isn't there. RF

I suppose, if you look at the big picture, most of the weather this winter has come from the west and north. Cold yes but the worse, and that that affects europe to the east of us first and worst usually comes from Siberia. North and east with our Gulf Stream protecting us from the worst. Everything seems topsy turvey even these storms were having are usually an Autumn thing. No wonder the plants are confused.

Its amazing how different locations are so advanced!! We still seem to be in winter . Probably because we are on a hill. We haven't even got frog spawn yet.......

You may recall I said my Tree Paeony was still in tight bud. The next day I looked at it and it was starting to unfurl. Here it is now.
