I was taking some photographs of bees and other insects today. Does anyone know what is on the back of one of these, and what is on the leg of the other? Eggs?

1sr one reminds me of the mid stage of the vine weevil, but what it would be doing stuck to the leg of a bee I don't know

Oh good heavens, I never imagined that they might be anything like that. And to think I could have done something to help the pure wee creature. I wonder if I might see him again if I stand vigilantly at the Buddleia tomorrow. He certainly was having a great time, the mites certainly weren't stopping him from feeding. Must go investigate some more. Thanks folks, that certainly adds to my knowledge.

I feel a little better now. They are a bit like the mites we have in our houses, in that they live in the nests of bees ans eat up the debris. So, although they can weigh the bee down a bit, they are really just hitching a lift. There is so much we don't know, isn't there?

Good grief, I'm glad they're friends of his and not foes
