I have lots of these plants around the house, they are all cuttings of each other, my question is.....can they be planted outside in the garden or are they just house plants?
Obviously I wouldn't be planting them out now but maybe in the Spring when the frosts have passed.
Any help would be appreciated as they are beginning to take over the house, and rather than keep giving them away (running out of friends to give them to) I wondered if they would grow outside.

They'll be absolutely fine next june time (or after the frosts)....just treat them like you would treat any bedding geranium

thanks Andy...will do that next year, will have to start taking even more cuttings and find somewhere to keep them around the house for now, they grow so fast.

I planted some out this year and they were lovely! I had them by the patio for their scent and although the summer was dreadful here, they were super. Good luck

Thanks......I can't wait, I have taken some more cuttings this morning and put them into a jug of water to root. I had lavender and rosemary by the back door this year so next year I'll put the lemon plants there. When they are indoors they don't seem to like direct sun so I'm not too sure about putting one out in the front garden as it gets quite hot and sunny there. (when we do get sun)

Mine have been great this year too. I had a biggish tub outside the GH with one in and it's been lovely every time I've brushed passed it. All mine are now in the GH except that one, it did get a bit of a touch up from the frost we had a few weeks ago but I've trimmed the bits off and will put it in for winter soon. I love the pretyy little flowers as much as the scent from the leaves. I hate it when I trim them and throw the cutting material away, but I've got probably 7 or 8 and they don't seem to do well in my house, probably lack of light so all mine are outside

It's great to know these can go outside. I've got 3 rooted cuttings and will take more now I know where I can put them. Do they have to come inside during winter? Not hardy then?

This scented Geranium is not hardy as far as I know LNG. I pinched a cutting from nextdoors at work. He had it on his balcony but I did not see it flower. Rumour has it that gnats do not like this plant at all. I remember ages ago that my aunt had them in her bedroom windowsil for this reason. In winter it was placed somewhere safe and warm ( open windows in winter are not appreciated by this plant ) Great, is it not, how easy this plant can be propagated.

No they aren't hardy LNG so keep them protected over winter. Mine are in our sunny heated porch so a bright windowsill should be fine. Gnats don't like them hey? I'll try to remember that

I always keep one in the kitchen and one in the downstairs loo cos flies aren't supposed to like them either.

Amazing little plant this lemon geranium. I absolutely love mine which came as a little slip from Plocket. The scent of their leaves is so lovely and the memories of my Mum having hers in the hall will always be with me.

I have three of these plants. I usually put them in pots on the garden in summer, then cut them down and keep them in the greenhouse or indoors during the winter just like bedding Geraniums. They smell lovely and have small delicate pink flowers. I didn't know they deter gnats and flies, thats handy to know.

Snowowl, if no body yet has offered you one then pm me and I will cut one off the parent plant and send it to you. Looked at mine today that are in the GH and there is some cutting material there if you would like SO I have a pot with some cuttings in too SO, I'll have a broggle about in the pot over the weekend and see how the roots are doing. I'm sure one would survive the short trip in a reinforced jiffy bag.

The plant that I put outside in the mini GH has sprouted so many new shoots that I might try and re-pot it into a bigger pot for the garden.

Did you never plant it outside MRH? Now is a good time to take more cuttings. I took some a couple of weeks ago and they're well rooted. All sitting outside now. ;D

I just stuck the pot outside into the mini GH and forgot about it....I need to re-pot it as it is looking a bit pot bound. I'll leave it out side now though.

Today I went to empty the tub that I'd had one in last year, it's been sat outside the GH door all winter the main plant died ages ago and the main stem had rotted away. I was just about to tip the lot in the compo bin when I spoteed new growth coming from below but Makes me wonder if one would survive in a sheltered spot in the ground over winter.

I honestly think if it doesnt get drowned by heavy rain that it might well survive Tig. I'm up for trying if you are. ;D
