On Saturday I was cooking some pork with Peppers and my neighbour walked in, with her daughter. Somehow it is normal that we just stay in the kitchen to sit and have a chat.
As I had to get the meat on I carried on working and we chatted. First daughter says - "aren't you going to peel the peppers" and mother says" don't be silly". RF is in the middle...great!!
In all my adult life I have never peeled peppers and unless I or my OH have stomach problems then I don't intend to.
However, as I was in the middle of a row between mother and daughter I suggested that we make a test.
I had some red long peppers from Hungary that I hoped to be a F2 so that I could, and have, taken seeds from. Then from the 6 large peppers I put one and a half in the pork stew that I was doing with the skin and waited a little and put the other one and a half in - without skin.
Then I made a salad from peppers and onions - again one small bowl with one and a half peppers with skin and one and a half peppers without skin.
The pork stew was lovely with other ingredients but I think that I should have waited to put the peppers without skin in..they had sort of disappeared. The peppers with skins were lovely as usual.
Now to the salad - I left the salad with pepper skin on overnight as I always do and I tried the pepper without skin on the same day and then a day later as well.
I will not be peeling peppers again - not only did I end up with orange red hands, I didn't feel that it made any difference.
Mother and daughter are still arguing...
What do the rest of you do??

I only peel peppers if I'm making a sweet pepper sauce as it makes a lovely smooth sauce when liquidised/processed and it wouldn't if the skins were still on. Best way to peel peppers is to roast/grill them for a bit then put them in a plastic bag to cool. Skins then come off easy!

I've never peeled them, don't really see the point. It's not like they've got a lot of flesh on them is it?! lol

I have never peeled them. I have seered them on the grill or BBQ and the skin has blistered and come away but it's sort of part of the effect and added sweetness. But I've never deliberately peeled them. I do have a friend who peels every mushroom where I just wipe them over however.... ;D

I've never peeled peppers - I've never even thought about it as a possibility! Love them though - just not very keen on the green ones.

I don't bother with peeling peppers. If someone doesn't want skin on their cooked peppers they can peel it off themselves! ;D

Well I am pleased that it isn't only me.
On all German cook shows that I have seen lately all the peppers are being peeled with a potato peeler, especially the green ones which they say are unripe.
I never peel mushrooms either, just wipe them.

As for peppers, I can't eat them, they upset my stomach

As I understand it there are a lot of people who get a stomach upset after eating peppers.
This is the reason that German cooks are now telling people to peel their peppers before eating them, raw or cooked, as it is better for your stomach.

I don't ever peel peppers. I love them and used to get terrible heartburn after eating them.
However, I don't suffer now. Maybe you who get indigestion could ask your doc about a urea breath test.
i got one done and haven't looked back since.
Went to the Hosp, the nurse handed me this small bag made of silver paper, sealed across the middle. Just like a hot water bottle but with an opening each end.
I blew into one end and they sealed it. I drank an orange juice with something in it, waited half an hour and blew into the other side of the bag.
A course of drugs later and I can eat peppers to my heart's content, pun intended!!!
Go for it. It worked for me. I'd hate to see people suffering if there's a cure....

I would never dream of peeling peppers but I sometimes don't eat the burnt skin if I roast them. I nearly always peel cucumbers.

Rosefriend, I don't peel them. I might remove a blemish if there is one, but that is about it. Did you post your pork stew in here somewhere? I make a pork stew but it doesn't call for peppers and I just thought yours might make a nice new addition. Ladygardener, I peel cucumbers because stores wax them, but I don't peel pickles. They don't wax them.

No I didn't post the recipe blc, as all it is is Pork chunks, onions, peppers, (anything else you like to throw in such as carrots, peas etc) and then S & P, Stock cube and thicken it. Even though I am alone now I still do it - makes 2 meals for me and is simple and easy. Sometimes I eat it with Pasta or Rice and sometimes with Potatoes...

The one I make uses mushrooms and and cream of celery soup. I sometimes use a bag of frozen mixed vegetables.
