I know what you mean JW. A little bit further away would be better. Do they come back to the same site each year?

Two years in a run Lady - it means I have to be so careful when opening the back door in case they are just about to fly out - it is just inches from the door - and cant relax on my decking as they dont feed their babies when I am sitting on it

Perhaps you could change the back door area in some way to deterr them for sure.

I thought of putting a cover over the shrub but then there are other shrubs in the garden, more prone to cat attack, so I have just left it and see what happens
By the back door then cats wont visit as easily as they can "sense" my dog is close by

There was what looked like a small queue by the suet feeder this morning of blue tits 'waiting' for the robin to finish

Bet that made you smile Jasmine. JW perhaps you're right, just leave it and see.

Is it in a pot Jen? If it is then can you not move it a bit so that it isnt right by the back door?

Give them time, my feeders were out for ages after I moved them before the birds touched them

It's odd what they take to and what they don't isn't it? The birds never took to having food in the front garden but there's so many of them in the back on the bird feeders.

I had a male Blackbird feed hummingbird style from one of my feeders last year! I just wished I had been faster with the camera! He did it a few times and not sure if he managed to get any sunflower hearts out. When you think I have a ground feeder and seed falls on the floor from this feeder, it seemed weird a Blackbird would try this and no, there wasn't a female nearby!

It never ceases to amaze me what some birds will do Madon. Today I was shocked to see a magpie sweep down and lift the fat ball from the ground and fly off with it. It was'nt full size because the birds had eaten from it but it was still a fair size, I kept thinking he would drop it.

I tied some half suet balls to the trees in the wood well out of reach of cats and they have gone - the whole suet ball - just the string left dangling
Am sure humans wouldnt have taken them - probably a squirrel with a pair of scissors ;D

Well my peanut feed is going like crazy now. I must have had about a dozen starlings eating at the table and ground yesterday. They could'nt get to the pine cones to eat off them, I'd thought the tits would go for them, but the starlings tried their best. They ended up pecking at them, hence knocking the food to the ground off the cones and eating it then from the ground. They really are clever.

I dont think so FB as I hung them on delicate branches too lite for squirrels or foxes to balance on = mystery

Could it have been a Magpie, like the one who stole my fat ball.

You mean the string? well yes could be but has to be big bird as the half coconut shells are quite big and heavy for a little beak
Whoever got it hope they enjoyed it ;D
