I think OH thinks it's a bit of a waste of money The birds haven't touched the front garden feeders yet even though my neighbours feed the birds in their front garden and their bird table is only about 30ft away from my new feeders - they are being treated with suspicion at the moment obviously!

Went to the Pets at Home near where I live and got a 3 bags of the suet pellets for the price of 2 so I came home and filled up the peanut feeder with them again. They go like wildfire and I'm off tomorrow so I'll see who's eating them. I have a feeling the pigeons are having a nibble too.

There were lots of very fat pigeons in Tunbridge Wells today - they must be finding plenty to eat. We don't really see them here.

We get wood pigeons and gulls, not feral pigeons.

Just been and filled my feeders to the brim as its snowing like mad. The birds were there before I could get back in the house, at least they'll have full bellies tonight and hopefully have some left over for the early birds in the morning. Must check the trays of water in the morning especially with this cold snap coming again.

We get lots of gulls, wood pigeons, magpies and squirrels on our flat bird table ( not to mention a naughty Posh) so, when we got a new top for it, OH balanced it rather than fixed it down. Now if anything heavy lands or jumps on it, it tips up - and we have been seeing a lot more small birds on it

Aldi have lantern style peanut aswell as seed feeders this week.
They're only £8.99 and are very sturdy, quite heavy too, so will need to be suspended from a strong branch/pole etc.
They're roughly 12"x8" and will hold 1 lb of seed.
I bought one and i think they're great value for money.

I bought my pole feeder from there and it was only £9.99p and it had a seedfeeder and fatball feeder, water tray and seed tray all in, it is very well made.

Oh, that's a real shame Auricula I bought another of these feeders today because the one i hung up in the rowan tree this morning was a huge success ;D Really good value for money. Best suited to hanging from a large tree though because they're quite large and heavy.

The birds are coming regularly to my garden especially in this snow. I've been out this morning stocking up again for them. I'll put out some water in a little while it's -3 at the moment so it would just freeze, although I never see any of them near it.

I've put out a tray supported on a large flowerpot this morning and filled it with suet pellets and seeds and some mealy worms as the snow is too deep. The birds are loving it and my little friend the Song Thrush who comes every year has arrived. I'm delighted. ;D

I couldn't find the original thread so i started another. Here is a picture of it ...... It's about 12" high and about 8 wide, made of pewter and very sturdy. Holds about a 1lb of seed.

The RSPB are warning folk at this time of year not to put out Turkey fat for the birds. It is unsuitable for them and can ruin the waterproofing of their feathers if it gets smeared on them. Here is the link. www.rspb.org.uk/news/266511-big-fat-no-for-birds

Thanks for that LG, good to know this sort of stuff. It mentions scrap food that you can feed incuding pastry and cooked spuds. Yesterday I put out the remains of a fruit pie and I put some frosted spuds on the cinders of my bonfire to cook, they'll be having a picnic today. The blackbirds will hopefully find the spuds, if my chickens don't get there first ;D Birdies still not very active in my garden - they dont eat anything I put out Got lots of goodies for them too What are you putting out Jenny I just love those feeders Louisa, they are soooooo big

I have tried different types of bird food I have two suet half coconut shells filled with goodies and fat balls Just now a few came by including my Robin all puffed out - what a wonderful sight he is - and ate a few bits A blackbird seems to be "in charge" and shooing everyone off Wonder if my artificial robin birdies and my huge artificial blackbird are putting them off - I will pop them in the summer house and see if that makes a difference

I've got 2 of them hanging in the rowan tree (with the other seed feeders) from big branches and they really are brilliant ;D Great value for money ;D ;D
