I remember Mum taking us to "Woolworth" to buy our coats and school clothes. Remember the ladybird label,I will miss seeing that on kids clothes. It's a terrible blow for the staff, made worse by the time of year; and (I feel) a great loss to our heritage.

I was decorating the Christmas tree at the boys' old school and out came the huge box of Woolies baubles - made me feel quite sad. The dinner lady and I got chatting about what we miss - that would have been the place for lights and cards and so on..... ...and you're right MRH - it's not the same on-line.

I heard they are going to franchise the brand on the high street somehow.

A friend and I were talking about Woolies the other day when I could'nt find clear white Christmas lights. Woolies would have had them. I've seen woolworths on some produce in the pound shop recently.

The Gardening Telegraph section has been selling a variety of cherry trees for a while under the heading 'Save a British Tree Grower due to the Woolies collapse'. We've got 2 cherry trees that OH bought 7 years ago from Woolies. They were about £10 each and they are doing so well.
