I've had to go back over this thread and see the pictures again, I'm really craving the fresh smell and sight of daffodils now, hopefully we'll start to see some in a few weeks or so.

So were some of your indoor hyacinths from previous years LG? If so they certainly weren't 'stumpy and short on flowers'.

Oh yes Jasmine, dug up from the borders because they did'nt do much there, they were'nt all new you know and none of them were prepared at all.

Wow! I will keep mine for indoors next year then rather than plant them out.

It really is worth a go I think. I'll just feed them now they've flowered and store them out the back until the autumn.

In their soil or dry? Do you pot them up in fresh compost next year?

I did pot them up in fresh compost Jasmine but they were in the ground during the summer. This year I'll just store them dry. I lifted and replanted most of the Daffs I could find during the autumn too and hope to get blooms this year. They've not done well for the past number of years when they were in the borders. I did however buy over 50 new small Daffs during autumn and they're all planted in pots.

Can you see green shoots in the pots LG. Mine are beginning to poke up above the soil but the ones that normally flower in January are nowhere near flowering.

Oh yes the green shoots are there Jasmine, and I can see 1 flower. I'm hoping for a lot more 'tho but it's early enough yet. By the way, just before I finish, not all the Hyacinth bulbs I potted up flowered, there were several that grew long leaves but had no flowers, still nothing ventured....

I've posted in the hyacinth thread but I'll post here too because we've been chatting so much about them. I went back over my book and am coming to realise that the Hyacinth that did'nt flower were most likely the old ones I dug up and those that flowered were the new ones I bought in september. I'd not recorded which were in which pots but I think it's pretty obvious now. I'm not sure now whether to keep the old bulbs or not They did'nt flower in the borders which is why I dug them up in the first place, yet FB gets his to bloom well every year. On a happier note the Tete a Tete that I bought half price in M&S at the beginning of Jan have 2 more flowers blooming on them. I'd put them outside a while ago as I thought they'd pretty much finished and that the 2 flower buds left would never open. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif

I bet the tete-a-tete will flower again next year if you find a little spot for them LG.

Thanks Jasmine, I'll be sure to hang onto them, I bought tons of little daffs at the end of the summer/start of autumn and hope they all do well for me. I can see lots of buds now on my own ones.

I saw some daffodils out on the way back from the osteopath yesterday. The yellow caught my eye.

Tooooooo busy ironing and packing today LG Will see what I can do tomorrow when I go to my book group. I love the highly perfumed ones with multiflowers but they don't last long indoors cos of the warmth. We have several vases full of them in the hospice corridor and they smell wonderful ;D

It's a shame Auricula but there'll be plenty still out when you come back again. We went for a long drive yesterday past lots of hedgegrows but not a sign of a daffodil.
