I've just sold my beloved Scimitar SS1 1800ti ....... but, this means I can take up my old sport of mountain biking! I used to be a real enthusiast but had to give it up about 10 years ago and have recently decided to take it up again for fitness and a good reason to get out and about in the country! Trouble is, there are so many different bikes on the market these days I haven't got a clue what to look for . Has anybody got a bike that they can recommend? I'm looking to spend around £300 - £400. Thanks peeps! S xx

Me I'm one Susie ;D Love cycling - usually try and do a bike holiday each year - so far been to Austria, Belgium and Holland spanning around last 10 years I have a Scott mountain bike called Purgatory - not sure if they make them anymore and I forget how much I paid but I think for £400 you should get a good one Scott make a lot of ranges; their dearest is around 7K If you want a mix between mountain bike and road (racing) bike you can get a Hybrid Good Luck

Thanks Jenny, looks like we've got the firmest thighs and butts on this board ;D Definately want a mountain bike and not a hybrid. I used to have a Trek and a Cannondale but can't believe the prices of these now, well, for one with a decent spec that is! Hopefully going out to look at some on Tues, can't wait! Susie x

Check the tyres have a special inner tube Susie - they cost around £20 for two but worth it
If you get a puncture then the inner tube absorbs it and although it pushes a hole in your tyre it doesnt go any further
After a while you have to get them replaced as they will be full
I bike along the canal and it is full of spiky hedge cuttings

The last bike I rode was a RM issue and it freaked me out so much with the basket blocking the view of the front wheel, I've not ridden one since lol You can tell by my svelte figure that I do enough exercise <coff>

I am one as well, usually lead a clubrun for pensioner's on Tuesday's. Ride to a pub for lunch then home again (usually around thirty miles). I've cycled over 30,000 miles since 1997. Slowing up now as I shall be 80 in March. The last few weeks we've used the car due to the weather. One of our runs:- www.erowell.co.uk/HD-album/Harling%20Drove/index.htmlHope the weather picks up soon.

My dad was cycling in his 80s and my mum, who is 84 only stopped cycling a few months ago.
You are never too old to cycle, if you feel confident enough to do it,

Ouch Susie I remember that feeling well ;D Will you get one of those gel seats or a gel pad, they do help I had Diamond Back mountain bike but didn't really use it much or look after it, I was very naughty and left it outside at the side of the shed for a couple of years In the end I gave it to a friend and her BF who was into bikes fixed it up for her. I then bought another which I have looked after it's in the shed but I can't even remember what make it is now, it's a mountain bike and it's black ;D I've only used it a few times but maybe this year I'll be good and use it.
